To be pissed off with friends sharing "Britain First" posts on facebooks

I am depressed by the sheer number of neathantals who share xenophobic posts from Britain First. I really don't want to defriend these people, but I don't want messages all over my facebook profile.

I have no problem with people who want more controls on immigration, but "Britain First" is akin to facists parties of the 1940s. There is a huge difference between intelligent debate on how to control the UKs boarders/ population size and outright racism.

I wish that there was a facebook app that would stop "Britain First" links appearing on my facebook newsfeed when stupid people comment or share a link.

Hide their status updates. Cancel your FB account. Don't do FB (it's for teenagers after all) Simple!

Yes I agree especially ones that say stuff like this family of illegal immigrants get this amount t in benefits but this OAP only gets x amount if your an illegal immigrant you get nothing or very little!

I'm fairly sure you can hide the British first stuff. next time you see one click on the little arrow in the corner. It should give you a list of options. pick hide this post then, rather than I don't want to see 'Fred jones' statuses or the other options, choice hide all posts from Britain first.

It never fails to amuse me at how many Facebook gripes on MN can be solved by simply blocking people from your news feed.

However, you might want to ask yourself why you don't drop your friends from your list completely if they really make you feel so pissed off and depressed.

Life's too short not to click that button.

I "unfriended" someone for that tonight; two Britain First photos in a row. I forgave the first one, something about British armed forces being the best in the world, because many of my acquaintances are ex-Army, but the second was some anti-Muslim shit and that was that.

I have a friend who shares these. It's always the dog welfare ones. She also shares Snopes-able links about Muslims denying British soldiers drinks in pubs. Logic fail anyone? Every time I calmly link to Snopes or the Wiki page about the links. She has started to fact-check herself to stop the horrible humiliation.

Failing that, block, block, defriend.

Jessie you could argue that 'some of my friends are ignorant'. The morally correct thing to do is stand up and be counted, challenge them.

OK, but I don't think the OP is suggesting tjat she does that though, is she? She just doesn't want to see their fascist propaganda. I guess that aFB degriending might go unnoticed,bit a real life defriending might well prompt a question and possibly give the OP a cjance to make her views clear.

I do think a lot of people share these without realizing they are from Britain First.

A friend of mine put up a warning that he will delete anyone sharing Britain First stuff and he has done so.

There are various posts around you could share that explain just what a vile organisation Britain First is that you could share in response.

People have no idea. Whenever someone posts a BF thing I usually comment on it and say ooh be careful... This comes from BF and they're horribly racist so I'm sure you don't really want to be sharing their stuff. I've found that usually people say ooh is it? And delete the post. If they don't I delete them.

You can block updates from any site. Just hover mousy over the update and click on the relevant instruction.

There was a really good blog post about this that I shared. I can almost forgive the 'respect our soldiers' ones shared by people who haven't realised the posts originated from Britain first but anything else and it's goodbye.

My friend posted a picture of a poppy earlier in the year and I liked it and shared it on my wall. It wasnt till someone pointed out to me it was a Britain First link. Until then I had never heard of them and didnt realise the picture came from them.

Now I check carefully where the picture comes from before I share anything. You might want to forgive someone if they do it once as they might not have realised where the picture came from. If they then post any more BF posts then they are fair game.

How do you know something is a Britain First thing please? I'd hate to share something like that inadvertently...and I'd not only lose my best friends over it, I wouldn't like me either!
For me fb helps me keep up with family and friends abroad so I don't want to lose it. The least prolific posters are the teenagers, the most an elderly Norwegian professor and his wife :)

She was mortified when I pointed out the connection.

It may be a genuine mistake but if if happened twice I'd think the worst.

Thegreylady when you share something on fb it tells you at the top who is posting the image. It's not hidden at all.

Shake it isn't that simple. And if you're bored by this thread feel free not to comment on it. Don't stress over it, as you say.

My mum inadvertently posted some poppy thing that was BF. I wasn't likely to just delete her now, was I? Especially as she was mortified when she realised.

And not everyone has fb friends they never met so best not to jump to conclusions.

I despise Britain First ...Celtic Britain First is a hoot though !
