WIBU to feel so ashamed about buying a Fray Bentos steak and kidney pie I had to use the self serve checkout? Blush

I'm not surprised - they are revolting!

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/08/2014 18:41

There are some things that are always self service. With me it's the National Enquirer. Blush

startwig1982 · 13/08/2014 18:41

Ugggh. Never ever had one, much to the amusement of the people I work with. A pie in a can? Just doesn't appeal.

ProfYaffle · 13/08/2014 18:43

I used to love Frey Bentos pies when I was a kid - we hardly ever had them and I thought they were really posh! Grin I haven't had one as an adult, the reality is bound to be crushingly disappointing compared to childhood memories.

CatKisser · 13/08/2014 18:45

I buy these from Home Bargains for about 34p when I'm skint just before payday. They're brilliant!

On the occasions my mother asks me to buy her a newspaper (DM Blush ) on my way over, I always have to make sure I use the self service checkout if I'm in the supermarket, or tell the newsagent that "This is for my mother"!

eyebags63 · 13/08/2014 19:05

YABU to buy them anywhere with self service checkouts - far too expensive in the main supermarkets when you can get them for < £1 elsewhere.

Also frey bentos pies are very nice, I like the just chicken ones myself.

eyebags63 · 13/08/2014 19:06

Curiouslygrumpycola · 13/08/2014 19:07

I also used to think these were fancy. Many a Sunday meal was Frae Bentos Steak pie, tatties and peas. Smile

(Viennetta for dessert!)

Vitalstatistix · 13/08/2014 19:08

Mmmm. Fray bentos pie sandwiches. 2nd only in deliciousness to noodle sandwiches.
My student years just came rushing back.

Curiouslygrumpycola · 13/08/2014 19:52

Excuse the 100 typos Smile

CrohnicallyDepressed · 13/08/2014 19:52

Fray Bentos pies were a caravan holiday staple when I was younger- along with tinned burgers, tinned veg, tinned potatoes, tinned anything really. Oh, and Vesta curries.

randomfemale · 13/08/2014 20:03

YABU they are gorgeous - fact Smile

Doing WW so can't have one Sad

Whiskwarrior · 13/08/2014 20:06

Oh man, the chicken and mushroom ones! There's one in my cupboard calling to me right now...

thebear1 · 13/08/2014 20:08

I have a rescue cat, the people who rescued it suspected it was feed on fray bentos pies. Apparently they were lined up on kitchen floor.

HellonHeels · 13/08/2014 20:10

Put it on the conveyor belt with pride! Bung a few organic apples or something on there to dilute the horror :-)

I've never actually eaten one but I'd like to. Do they make a veggie version?

frames · 13/08/2014 20:10

Vesta curries....yummy, takes me back.

Stresshead123 · 13/08/2014 20:13

Think they are ok but they have msg on them & make u soo dehydrated afterwards

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 13/08/2014 20:13

Would it be drip feeding to at this point reveal the reason for such shame was further impacted by also having slim fast in my basket Sad

OP posts:
HellonHeels · 13/08/2014 20:15

Fair enough OP - all day on slim fast then a pie for dinner. Nothing wrong with that Grin

ICanSeeTheSun · 13/08/2014 20:16

FB minced beef pie with homemade chips and bisto. This is hangover food staples.

WildThong · 13/08/2014 20:19

Vesta curry with sultanas in and strange dry chewy bits of 'meat'

ICanSeeTheSun · 13/08/2014 20:21

No veggie HellonHeels

gamerchick · 13/08/2014 20:22

Ah man I buy piles of those for my zombie cupboard. The husband thinks all his birthdays have come at once when it's rotation time Grin
