I don't think I could get past the word "Liver" on food. Do you know what it is that a liver does?

Yuck.

But you know, if you like it, eat it? Obviously other people agree with you if it's marketed and mass produced.

Caravan holiday staple when i was a kid too! Grin

Then caravan holidays with my own kids. DCs still love them (in their teens/20s) and in fact call them 'caravan pies'. We used to have them with instant mash in the caravan.

Steak FB for me Grin

firesidechat · 13/08/2014 20:26

The 70's and 80's were great.

Fray Bentos pies and Vesta currys.

Haven't had either for about 28 years, but I am tempted.

EBearhug · 13/08/2014 20:28

Don't give in to the temptation. I had a Fray Bentos pie for old times' sake.

Didn't live up to the memory.

Moonagedaydreamer · 13/08/2014 20:29

My BIL is a classically french trained chef and he always has a FB pie in his cupboard............He says they are his guilty pleasure Grin

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 13/08/2014 20:30

Do they still do their steak and kidney puddings? I have fond memories of one sitting for what seemed like an eternity in a pan of boiling water. Two holes punctured in the top to let the steam escape. They were amazing!

HellonHeels · 13/08/2014 20:35

ExDH used to get a boxed, frozen pie and mash meal from somewhere. He loved them but is a working class Londoner who was brought up on pie and mash.

Anyone had one of those?

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 13/08/2014 20:44

ADHD it's steak and kidney not steak and liver you nana

I don't think I've had one in 20 years. I suspect they're shite though. I had a pot noodle about 3 months ago after a similar period of time. It was shite.

Am fairly sure the checkout assistants don't give a shit unless they're students or you've rocked up with a look that is utterly at odds with the contents of your trolley

DP and I used to eat a lot more vegetarian food than we do at the moment and I used to get far more comments about the amount of fresh veg I was buying (plus the occasional request from a new checkout assistant to identify the vegetable Hmm which probably says more about our nation's diet than anything else).

TheRealAmandaClarke · 13/08/2014 21:21

Thank you. I needed the laugh that came with the slimfast confession.
My granny used to buy fray bentos pies and the tin was used as a cat food dish.
Are they yummy? I like a pie.

Leeds2 · 13/08/2014 21:29

I don't eat them very often, but I love a FB tinned pie.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 13/08/2014 21:30

They are delish in a dirty dirty kind of way

pictish · 13/08/2014 21:34

Never had one. How does a tinned pie even work?

frames · 13/08/2014 21:54

Take the lid off, stick in oven on an oven tray. Bit like any other bought pie .

WildThong · 13/08/2014 22:09

We used to get a grocery van round that sold scotch pie with mash and beans on the top. Cold obviously, so had to be heated til the beans and mash went crispy.

FunLovinBunster · 13/08/2014 22:13

Add a fruit shoot and a bag of Haribo.
All the major food groups.

Guiltypleasures001 · 13/08/2014 22:15

Oooo goblin meat puddings with mushy peas and mash, oh and fray bentos are sold in B&M's we loved em in our house Smile

Peacocklady · 13/08/2014 22:15

I got Imodium on the self service so I could be private. Bloody thing scanned but then couldn't tell I'd put it in the bagging area so kept telling me to very loudly.

I tried on another one. Meanwhile new customer went to the first machine that was still nagging and displaying my attempted purchase and looked slightly horrified.

My second attempt on new self service also failed with loud bossy commands from the machine. Had to get attendant to sort it all out whilst getting increasingly red and sweaty and trying to laugh it off.

SistersOfPercy · 13/08/2014 23:43

Ahhh the soggy pastry on top, to die for. I very occasionally buy one just to have shit pie and chips,dh gets entire filling and all the crispy pastry and I get the soggy bit. Delicious.

Stratter5 · 13/08/2014 23:52

Ohhhhh, I LOVE those. They are my deep, deep secret when the DDs aren't here. A whole one, fits perfectly into a bowl, with peas piled in the middle.

Yum :)

ICanSeeTheSun · 14/08/2014 01:52

I don't even put in on a tray, the perfect bit about it is there is no washing anything apart from the plate.

ZenGardener · 14/08/2014 01:58

Pie and slim fast!! I'd have been repressing a smile if I'd been a cashier to scan that. You were quite right to go self-service.

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 14/08/2014 06:28

Tinned potatoes! A very distinctive taste.

firesidechat · 14/08/2014 08:18

Oh no, tinned potatoes were/are a very strange food indeed. I have no idea what they did to them, but they neither looked nor tasted like potato at all.

pictish · 14/08/2014 09:17

Oh it goes in the oven!! Well duh...ha ha!

I was picturing opening the lid and getting a spoon out. Confused
How stupid.
