To have complained about this advert?

Not even sure why I'm asking, I am still so angry.

Watching CN with DCs, and this advert, if you can call it that, for "Steffilove" comes on...it is basically a Pussycat Dolls inspired music video featuring some coquettish and scantily clad teenagers, dancing in a way it don't think is appropriate (crotch flashing, anyone?) and all for a doll that is shown at the very end.

The slogan was "Steffilove.com" which lead me to the toy manufacturers site, where I emailed the Uk branch. Going to complain to ofcom too.

Makes me angry as my kids don't watch music videos and I don't expect to see this shit on a kids channel.

YANBU. They seem to be based in Germany. I would also complain to the official advertising standards myself.

Dolls look utterly shite by the way...cheap and nasty.

mrsfassbender · 07/08/2014 14:34

Totally shite. Complained to ASA. Just so fed up of this nonsense invading my kids space!

IceBeing · 07/08/2014 15:16

definitely complain. sounds dreadful.

RedRoom · 07/08/2014 17:46

Have just watched it. One child is wearing a boob tube and a mini that just about covers her backside and they are all caked in makeup. You most definitely are not BU!

UncleT · 07/08/2014 18:05

YANBU. It's simply not acceptable to bombard children with crap like that.

avocadoaddict · 07/08/2014 19:18

Do you have a link online OP? Tried to find on YouTube but no luck. Need to see it for myself to decide if YABU Grin. It sounds pretty awful though.

DD is 15 weeks so we don't watch CN (yet...!)

ouryve · 07/08/2014 19:27

Glad you complained. It's completely inappropriate.

mrsfassbender · 07/08/2014 19:33

Going to see if I can find a link- there's a website which is steffilove.com.
Thanks for the comment RedRoom- I was wondering if I was being a bit OTT but you've described the outfit pretty accurately

Thinking I should complain direct to Cartoon Network too. I love watching Gumball with my two. Very disappointed with this ??

NellyNoodle1 · 07/08/2014 20:40

Wow - where to start with what is wrong with that - no way are you BU - good for you complaining.

Discoflame · 07/08/2014 20:48

My DH and I were open mouthed with horror when we saw this the other day. We were watching Peppa pig with DD who is only 2! Have made a decision to tape Peppa now and fast forward the adverts. I was horrified!

Holidayfun · 07/08/2014 20:53

How depressing on so many levels.

Cheesymonster · 07/08/2014 20:56

Yes I saw this too! Whilst watching Peppa with my 21 month old. Definitely YANBU.

mrsfassbender · 07/08/2014 20:56

It is depressing. Makes me so sad that other kids won't have parents who switch it off/complain about it and will watch it and aspire to it. Messed up world Sad

alwaysonmymind · 07/08/2014 21:00

I saw this too with my DC.
What a pile of crap Hmm

buddles · 07/08/2014 21:05

That's an advert for a doll??? How odd!

Good on you for complaining, that is totally inappropriate.

Glad we only watch cbeebies Grin

MollyHooper · 07/08/2014 21:08

They aren't teenagers or children. The lead singer(?) is 25.

You're right though, it's not appropriate at all.

avocadoaddict · 07/08/2014 21:12

Just watched it Sad

Wrong wrong wrong...

Good on you op. Can't believe anyone thought this was appropriate.

17leftfeet · 07/08/2014 21:13

They are all about 30!

Either way not appropriate for a child's toy

I've actually blocked Cartoon Network due to the adverts on there

MollyHooper · 07/08/2014 21:22
(the blonde haired singer)

Apparently her band were on the X factor.

Yet another of the ever growing reasons not to appear on that show. You could end up half naked in a toy advert. :o

mrsfassbender · 07/08/2014 21:39

Oh man! An X Factor wannabe. And what has it got to do with a bloody doll?! Ridiculous

OP posts:
thursday · 07/08/2014 21:40

Argh! My kids watch this channel but I'm usually at work. I hope my ludicrously impressionable 4 yr old hasn't seen this shit. She's already explained to me in a very serious voice about how girls have to take all their hair off. ??

MollyHooper · 07/08/2014 21:42

They were called... (wait for it)... Dolly Rockers.

queenofthemountain · 07/08/2014 21:48

It's a popstar doll, how would you expect them to advertise it other than with a pop video? What exactly is so inappropritae ? The girl is wearing a mini skirt, crop top and a jacket!! And where is the crotch flashing??
