To have complained about this advert?

Not even sure why I'm asking, I am still so angry.

Watching CN with DCs, and this advert, if you can call it that, for "Steffilove" comes on...it is basically a Pussycat Dolls inspired music video featuring some coquettish and scantily clad teenagers, dancing in a way it don't think is appropriate (crotch flashing, anyone?) and all for a doll that is shown at the very end.

The slogan was "Steffilove.com" which lead me to the toy manufacturers site, where I emailed the Uk branch. Going to complain to ofcom too.

Makes me angry as my kids don't watch music videos and I don't expect to see this shit on a kids channel.

Unimaginative, stereotypical and intensely boring, but I can't think of a single reason to complain.

But young girls do like singing, dancing and wearing skimpy clothes.

The clothes one is a total mystery to someone whose always cold, but DD2 would squash into the year before lasts shorts and a vest to trampoline in February, not dressing up, not imitating anything she'd seen that's just what she was comfortable in.

Idontseeanyicegiants · 07/08/2014 22:08

I didn't even realise it was an advert tbh, I caught a tiny clip of it when DD1 (8) was flicking channels. She looked rather unimpressed..
I have no issue with Barbie, Lego friends or anything of that type as long as girls are not encouraged to believe that it's the only type of toy they should be playing with IYSWIM, but that seemed to be a step too far. I'm not going to complain until I've seen the whole thing though, a few seconds snapshot doesn't give it a fair chance.

MollyHooper · 07/08/2014 22:10

Go Go Go make little pop videos for children and don't dress or dance like that.

mrsfassbender · 07/08/2014 22:16

queenofthemountain the dancer to
The left of the singer. Sorry but I don't want my DD thinking that's a normal way to dress or dance and that's the problem, this crap is being normalised!!!!!

It's the fact that the (already pretty) girl goes to sleep and becomes a barbie doll like image of 'perfection' in her dreams which bothers me more than the scantily clad-ness.

I think that's even more damaging because it seems to be attempting to influence young girl's aspirations.

Good point pregnantberry

the singers and dancers all look older than teens

i didn't see anything particularly risque or provocative in terms of the dancing- certainly no crotch flashing as mentioned.

sure, its crap but not offensive or inappropriate

Swingball · 08/08/2014 08:44

Yuk! How tacky is that? Presumably they wouldn't have got away with someone who was/looked like a child behaving like this, which is why she is 25. But yes I agree it is the attempt to influence aspirations which include sexualised behaviour which is so wrong.

Makes me sad.

achtunglady · 08/08/2014 08:55

I don't get it. Admittedly its shite and tacky, but then so are plenty of things kids are into. I didn't see any crotch flashing, and I didn't see any children wearing mini skirts that just about covered their arse either!!

Kids do like singing, dancing and dressing up. A lot of kids if given the choice will be drawn to bright glittery clothes like a fly to shit, so what??

And its just a doll, like Barbie is just a doll.

JamNan · 08/08/2014 08:57

YADNBU! That is so inappropriate. I am going to complain too.

how to complain to ASA link here scroll down to 'lodge a complaint' highlighted in red.

hellsbellsmelons · 08/08/2014 09:05

Tacky, naff and a pile of crap - yes
Offensive - not really
I see people on the street dressed more inappropriately than this TBH.
And the swinwear is the chunkiest thing I've ever seen.
