To still nap when DD does even though she is 2.5?

Just that really. When we are at home at nap time, my DD won't go to sleep unless I lie with her which usually makes me so sleepy that I also drift off. I know everyone says at the newborn stage to nap when they do but what about toddlers? There isn't normally any pressing housework that needs to be done so if I don't sleep I usually just faff about online for an hour while she sleeps. Am I being lazy?

No! Not lazy - sensible. My daughter is the same age and still not sleeping through. So I should really grab the opportunity to nap during the day when she does. But I always find little jobs to do. Which is why I'm bloody knackered..

icclemunchy · 04/08/2014 21:45

My DD is coming up for 4 and on the very odd occasion she needs an after noon nap I'm straight In there!! Ok I have a few health conditions but a nap makes me happier and life easier so why not.

Enjoy your snoozes Wink

This is a joke in our house, 'I sleep when the baby sleeps' even though she's almost 3!

You do what you have to to get her to sleep!

Sparklypants · 04/08/2014 21:50

I still nap with my nearly 3 yr old DS (3 this week) Grin

AliMonkey · 04/08/2014 21:51

Trying to work out how you don't manage to have housework that needs doing if you are at home with a 2 year old who presumably wants your attention when she is awake - but if that is the case I say lucky you and make the most of it while you can as those naps probably won't last much longer! As someone whose kids never napped at home in the day time (but happily did so in car or buggy) past 3 months old I am thinking maybe I should have used your tactic!

KateSpade · 04/08/2014 21:52

I occasionally still do this & it means we both end up having a three hour nap in the afternoon.

I feel much less guilty now though! Grin

HolyDrinker · 04/08/2014 21:53

Ooh, DS (3), DD (9mo) and I all had a nap in my big superking bed this afternoon. It was bliss. Enjoy while you can!

StillaChocoholic · 04/08/2014 21:56

I do this. DS tends to fall asleep on me anyway so I can't really move.
Should really be doing housework but sod it.
Sleep makes me happy, housework doesn't.

DoNotDenyMe · 04/08/2014 21:58

My dd is also aged 2 and yeah, I still have the naps! I must admit, it had crossed my mind that I perhaps shouldn't do this anymore. She sleeps great at night, so it's not like I'm sleep deprived. But I love my sleep, and fortunately she does too! Also feeling less guilty- thank you OP Grin

technosausage · 04/08/2014 21:59

Me, ds (2) and dd (4mo) all have a nap together in my bed in the afternoon, tis lovely :)

Koothrapanties · 04/08/2014 22:01

Dd is about to turn 10 months and we nap together for her morning nap. I love it and have no intention of stopping. It's so nice to snuggle up with her and snooze. Bliss, utter bliss.

She sleeps through so there's no real need to, but it's so bloody lovely I don't care.

FreudiansSlipper · 04/08/2014 22:01

enjoy it while you can being with a toddler is exhausting

and when she is old enough if you need a nap give her the ipad

Honsandrevels · 04/08/2014 22:02

I used to LOVE this. I was sad when dd1 stopped napping. I used to put dd1 in her bed then feed dd2 and we'd all have a lovely 2 hr sleep.

HygieneFreak · 04/08/2014 22:02

Im very envious of you people whos children have an afternoon nap

Dd is 22 months and hasnt napped in the day for around 4 months.

On the odd occasion that she does nap, even if its just for an hour, shes awake until 10pm.

Pico2 · 04/08/2014 22:03

I'd do it if I could. Sadly DD no longer naps.

HedgehogHairbrush · 04/08/2014 22:04

When DD2 was born, DD1 was not quite 2. We all used to go to bed for DD1's nap and I would fedd DD2 until she fell asleep. This carried on until DD1 dropped her nap (much later than her peers thanks to my persuasion!) at 3 and a bit. I loved those dozy, cuddly afternoons, and my goodness, I needed the rest!

My DD is the same: if she's going for a nap she wants me to lie next to her until she's asleep. By then I'm half asleep myself.

Needadvice5 · 04/08/2014 22:10

Erm I still have an hour in the afternoon when I'm off work and my dc's are 13 and 10.

Yanbu!!!!

Flexibilityisquay · 04/08/2014 22:10

YANBU. I wish I could persuade my 6 year old to nap. I'd still be happy to join him!

Dieu · 04/08/2014 22:13

Good on ya ... enjoy!

honeycrest · 04/08/2014 22:14

Thanks everyone for the replies.I don't feel guilty anymore.

Regarding housework, I just get on with it while she is playing. The house has an open plan layout so I can mop the kitchen floor or make dinner and still see and chat to DD. She 'helps' me to load the washing machine and dryer. I don't bother tidying away her toys until she goes to bed.

She doesn't sleep through so I am tired in the day but tbh I've always loved my sleep. I used to look forward all day to my after work naps pre DD. I'm dreading the day when she doesn't need to nap anymore!

I am a human Bagpuss, so totally get the need/desire for sleep.

westcountrywoman · 04/08/2014 22:20

Hell no! I would if I could but have a 4 year old to entertain when my 2 year old is asleep!

icclemunchy · 04/08/2014 22:30

My 4 and a half year old snoozes during the day still (school are gonna have a mare with him in September, it's impossible to keep him awake, he just drops where he is standing sometimes!) and I love having a kip with him. Deffo not being unreasonable.
