hi i was just sitting here thinking that these commonwealth games are not much more than the home nation,s competing against each other and are giving the athletes the impression they are world class .i mean no america in athletics .no america /russia in gymnastics .sorry but i think its not been great .and i am scottish .and we should not be having a rebel song masking as a national anthem .great song at new year but not on when english competetor standing beside them .

Australia and Canada are second and third in the Medal table so it's hardly just the Home nations.

That's like saying the European championships are shit because there are no African athletes competing. Or that you shouldn't be chuffed that your 14 yo won something at the under 15 gymnastics because there were no 17 yos there. OK, it's not the Olympics or a world event, but it's a pretty significant event and records are being broken.

Maybe England aren't top of leaderboard after all Clare balding said the other day 'we have two ENGLISH competitors, one from Scotland and one from Wales' eh no Clare the uk does not stop at the border.

I do cringe a bit at Flower of Scotland though - it's not my anthem. I'd rather have A Man's a Man (it meets Billy Connelly's criteria for jaunty anthems too, if you speed it up a bit) or even Caledonia (potential for drunk-roaring the chorus).

Loads of Olympic champions have been competing in these games, of course it's world class.

You are so very very unreasonable. Is Usain Bolt not world class enough for you? Greg Rutherford, Olympic gold winner? Brownlee bros? Ok so some Olympic class athletes don't take part - because of the nation they represent doesn't compete. But for those who represent countries that do compete, if they're fit, they are there. Sounds like you have no idea what the CWG are all about. And as for the poster who couldn't find out anything about it, do you not have a television showing the BBC?

Fluffy wasn't Clare Balding was referring to four competitors from the UK: Two from England, one from Scotland and one from Wales?

The Games have been great.
I dislike FoS intensely, it's a dirge and smacks of umbrage. Prefer Scotland the Brave or Island Cathedral.
The line re "Rebellious Scots to Crush" is oft cited. It's from hundreds of years ago when Scots were genuinely rebelling, the verse itself is no longer in use.

An is that what she meant. The way she said it sounded different. Got to agree with a pp that caledonia would be fab. I sang that to myself in the last day I spent in our London
Office before travelling home.

In some events you have the best in the world.in some of the diving there have been medalists from 2012.

In certain athletics events there have been the best in the world.

Not all sporting events are dominated by the USA/Rusdia!

We compete in football and rugby tournaments as separate nations and nobody thinks we're cheating.

We have had a great time following the Lawn Bowls. Dh grew up with Tattie and was a tad shocked when Paul Foster and a few others friend requested him earlier this week on facebook.

I'm disappointed with the BBC and their lack of appreciation for their viewers watching the lawn bowls gold medal game and them switching it over to the english hockey prelim game.

Remember the commonwealth games are the countries which are part of the commonwealth not the whole world like the olympics.

yabu - the squash players, for example, are world class - both current mens and ladies world champions are english - we have 4 men and at least 2 ladies in the top 10 in the world - Nicol David is no.1 woman in the world and has won the gold medal - why don't you check your facts?

Usain Bolt is only competing in the relay because he's been recovering from surgery not because he can't be bothered to make the effort.

passed me right by, I'm afraid, due to the restricted events rather than the restricted attendance. Running about, throwing things, swimming etc. I'm afraid lawn bowls is right down there with curling for me.

hope everyone had fun, but whether it is in Scotland or Delhi makes no difference to me.

Er you do know that EVERY Commonwealth Games is like this don't you?

On account of them being held every four years and all that...

Usain Bolt has been injured and hasn't run competitively at all this season, he's just doing the relay to get some runs in, not because he can't be arsed with the rest?

Was going to mention Louis Smith getting a silver medal in the Olympics, but a bronze in the Commonwealth, although I see someone else has already beaten me to it.

Oh and David Rudisha is Olympic champion and world record holder, and has also repeatedly been voted athlete of the year. He won the silver last night.
