To think this is wrong? Baby milk related

Name changed as I don't want to out myself! When my baby was in SCBU I made friends with another mum. Not so long ago she told me that she was getting more formula via prescription than she needed to put cartons by for when she would not receive a prescription any more to avoid paying for the milk.

A notification on facebook popped up saying this mum had posted something on the local baby buy and sell site and she is selling one of these cartons of milk! From what I can see it's only one carton but I haven't looked on other sites. I can't help but think this isn't right, she is receiving free milk for her baby and should not be sold on! AIBU to think this is dishonest and a waste of resources.

Can you maybe stretch your mind as to why she needs to sell a carton of baby milk?

She's maybe hard up. But its her life. Id stay out of it.

She is either greedy or strapped for cash people do take advantage sometimes I dont think its righ either way.t how is she able to stockpile formula surely she would only get enough milk on her prescription for the baby

She hasn't mentioned being in any financial difficulties JudysPriest, she certainly seems well off but you never can tell. She did mention she has loads of it so I wondered if she wanted to sell some while the date on it is good

Like JudysPriest I would be reluctant to criticise her without knowing her situation - and I do mean knowing rather than assuming.

do you think she might be underfeeding the baby? or would the prescription give more than the baby needs?

I think it's wrong too.

Knowing the difference the right milk can make to a baby I couldn't in good conscience profit from a mum so desperate that they have to get milk off face book.

I'd give it away rather than sell it (if I really didn't need it any more)

I know people who get prescription formula and even on healthy start you only get so much per week unless she has changed the babies formula and wants to get rid of it.

I have no idea how she is getting more milk than she needs, baby looks well and she has said that he is doing well for weight given how prem they were so I assume it is more than they need.

I used to get pepti milk on prescription and they have me three tubs at a time.

I pushed for a dietitian appointment so I could find out what milk alternatives I could use from a yr (I assumed it would be stopped around then) so theoretically I could have had three tubs needing using up and be able to have used the junior plus alpro from a yr. so can see how that could happen

Lets spin this round a bit... (and the following is true)

Disabled (paralysed) friend receives adult nappies etc as part of her care package. She gets regular deliveries all NHS funded of many more than she'll need. She has quite the thriving sideline selling 'Adult interest nappies for sexual play'.

Well thats a curveball sisters I suppose if somebody is getting the use of the milk then its fine, I cant see a pharmacy taking it back anyway so its wasted

well that is actually quite annoying to hear sistersofpercy because I am aware of MNers who have children or partners/parents requiring adult nappies and they are being given far too few. in fact I think it was brought to the attention of David Cameron.

Sisters I find that quite hard to believe. Are you sure your leg is not being pulled? Like Dia my understanding is that nappies for adults and older children are always punitively rationed.

As far as the OP goes, I can't get too worked up about a single carton of formula, whatever the technicalities. I suspect she must be quite hard up to bother TBH.

Arsenic nope not being pulled. Can't say too much for fear of outing but I have seen them for sale and I've been at the house when boxes have been delivered. I've even helped put them away in their shed which is full.

I've known about it for about 2 years but so far kept my mouth shut as it's the partner behind it not friend and to out her would cause immeasurable problems for her.

We had to throw away four tubs of Neocate which we discovered out of date when we moved house. If I'd have known I would have given them away. The pharmacy won't take them back. I wouldn't have sold them.

It may not be a couple of quid though.

I mean the pepti milk is like£30 for the900g tub.

So charging anything up to 28 pounds and without delivery fee is going to be cheaper and snapped up quickly!!

If people are struggling with getting drs to believe there's a problem and they need milk and this person is local to te and they can nip round and get it, there's no telling how much people would pay to be able to do that.

She could be making a fair bit preying on people who are desperate

so someone is taking a vulnerable patient's supply of nappies and selling them?

I have changed my mind whatever the reason at least somebody is getting the use of it I dont think its too bad

To be clear Dia the person selling the nappies is the vulnerable patient themselves....
I believe the selling has wound down somewhat over the last 7 or 8 months so it could be that the supplies have been cut back.
