To not want to see a dead fetus!!!

coffeetofunction · 30/06/2014 15:07

I don't know if it's just me being sensitive but I went on Facebook this morning & a friend had posted a picture of a dead fetus, with a slogan saying "say no to abortions" & asking people to say a prayer!!

I personally don't want to see that image due to a late miscarriage I had but I also feel there are millions of women that have taken the hard step to terminate a pregnancy that also do not need to see this!!

I reported the post & Facebook have messaged me to say it is not inappropriate!!

AIBU to think this image is inappropriate regardless of people's personal opinions?

LaurieFairyCake · 30/06/2014 15:08

It's grotesque. These people are scum

specialsubject · 30/06/2014 15:11

not inappropriate? Must be an anti-choicer at facebook.

unfriend her for intolerance, stupidity and being generally offensive. You might also ask her if she is prepared to take on the upbringing of a baby that would otherwise have been aborted. However disabled it may be. If she isn't, then her opinion is not valid.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 30/06/2014 15:12

There's a group who have taken to dropping huge banners from a bridge over the highway on our way home with similar pictures on. They then all hang about looking smug Hmm

Gives me the rage and DH and I flip them the bird as we go underneath

YANBU to say you don't want to see it but YABU to then think that means it's inappropriate for everyone. You can choose to hide the photo or delete the friend. You can't control what she posts.

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 30/06/2014 15:18

Remove the friend.

Dodgy images will always exist, not much you can do.

Just filter the dickwads who post them.

I had a termination after a rape. I'm fine about it now but a few years ago a picture like that would've floored me.

Xcountry · 30/06/2014 15:26

Its not very considerate. I'm not all that comfortable with abortion and the thought of the 'sod the consequences' way of some people but it is genuinely going to upset people and maybe people mostly like KingJoffrey said that would have floored her and others like her who maybe had terminations for medical reasons too. Its not all black and white and frankly sometimes there isn't really much of a choice and people would do well to remember this before posting such stupid stupid pictures. KingJoffrey I am truly sorry to hear that and glad you are somewhat moved on from it

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/06/2014 15:28

YANBU, they should be banned.

But the vast majority of them are not even the images they claim to be its trickery and gore

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/06/2014 15:31

But give it a few minutes and one of our 3/4 dedicated prolifers will jump in to say what a wonderful fucking thing those photos are and how much of a valuable resource and without them the entire world will implode,or some other such bollocks designed to make you want to introduce a plank to the back of the head a bit like road runner.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/06/2014 15:34

It's not just inappropriate. It's a big fat fucking lie.

They post photos that look like babies because the cluster of small clots that the vast majority of terminations look like isn't evocative enough Hmm

They should fuck off to third world countries with no access to decent contraception and campaign there instead of smiling their smug fake Christian cunty faces.

Xcountry · 30/06/2014 15:39

NeedsAsockamnesty I don't see how even those profilers would be able to argue against someone who had a termination for say anencephaly? And no matter how much of a 'valuable resource' they argued them to be, they would be of no value to someone who has had to terminate for reasons I don't even want to comprehend. Truthful education - yes it is needed but does that constitute spreading these pictures on social media? no

coffeetofunction · 30/06/2014 15:46

I think was also has really got under my skin is that in the response I received from Facebook about inappropriate photos, there was mention that family photos of breast feeding would be seen to be inappropriate!! I know there 2 different issues but I can't understand the logic I what is deemed in there opinion to be appropriate & what is not!!!

OP posts:
Xcountry · 30/06/2014 15:50

Probably falls under some religious belief/freedom of speech bullsht coffee*, cant think of any other reason really.

Numanoid · 30/06/2014 15:55

YANBU. KingJoffrey I'm sorry to hear that too, and am glad that you've been able to move on from it, what an evil thing for someone to do to another human being. Thanks
I believe in a woman's right to choose with regard to abortion, especially in cases when the pregnancy is the result of rape, or a genuine mishap when contraception has failed and for whatever reason, the mother isn't ready for a baby. Many other reasons too (although 'couldn't be bothered with contraception and ended up getting pregnant' is not one of them!)
Photos like the described by the OP are definitely unnecessary and not something many people want to see when on FB.

MagicMojito · 30/06/2014 16:17

Fb is great and terrible at the same time for making you see people for what they really are.
Unfriend and explain why.

And yes, its beyond infuriating that a mother breastfeeding a baby/child is veiwed as offensive yet a picture of a dead baby is deemed perfectly acceptable. The mind boggles Angry Hmm

MagicMojito · 30/06/2014 16:24

Apologies if my post seemed abit callous re the "dead baby" comment. I've just read it back to myself and it doesnt read the way I intended it to.

Ofcourse I'm referring to the distressing pictures of aborted babies designed to guilt and shame women out of having abortions.

hoobypickypicky · 30/06/2014 16:37

I'm not sure. I think the person has as much right to demonstrate her perception of immorality as, say, the animal rights protester has the right to show photos of inside a slaughterhouse or the campaigner against the hanging of women in India may show pictures of those dreadful incidents.

That doesn't mean that I agree with the anti-abortionist - far from it, I'm staunchly pro-choice - so it would be reasonable for me to unfriend and ditch the person concerned while defending her right to believe and publicise such crap.

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/06/2014 16:42

Are you sure she meant to post the picture she posted? She wasn't hacked? Or this wasn't a trick post that lured her to share and wasn't what she thought it was?

It's a vile thing to do if she meant to. I hope she is never in a position where she has to have an abortion and can carry on feeling all smug.

Leave the rest of the people to live in the real world where the procedure is a life and sanity saver.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/06/2014 17:11

Xcountry

Oh don't fret yourself she will be along at some stage I'm sure of it,and what a treat we are all in for.

And yes she would

dawndonnaagain · 30/06/2014 17:16

Xcountry she has argued against. With a woman who was unable to have an abortion because she was in N.I.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 30/06/2014 17:19

I had an ex school friend that did this. Dropped her like a hot brick.

sashh · 30/06/2014 18:02

NeedsAsockamnesty I don't see how even those profilers would be able to argue against someone who had a termination for say anencephaly?

They can, they do. Unfortunately I'm related to one.

OP

I don't know if this helps, but they are not real images.

We had a poster on my wall at school of a black bin bag full of 'babies', but that would never happen. The results of a foetus would not be stuck in a bin liner, very few abortions take place near to term and these babies all looked full term. A poster on MN suggested that a bin liner might be sent round various clinics to collect the results of late term abortions, it is totally ridiculous (the suggestion).

These images are designed to horrify and guilt people and face book should not allow them.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 30/06/2014 18:29

I'll come right out and say it, how long till bumbleymummy appears?

(half expecting her to have posted before I finish sending this!)

Happydaysatlast · 30/06/2014 18:35

LaurieFairyCake exactly so. That is a spot on post.

I had an equally cunty shit one about a make doctor telling a pregnant woman about having her baby and then him killing it or some such crap. The mother is apparently then supposed to weep and thank the make doctor for saving her baby by changing her mind.

Totally vomit making. I defriended.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 30/06/2014 18:36

Can you imagine living your life without the intelligence to know that these thoughts are so awful & ignorant? I almost feel sorry for the OP's Facebook friend, existing with so few brain cells, no empathy or even sympathy.
