To not want to get dressed

I am due in hospital on Friday and went for my pre op appointment yesterday. I have purchased two new night dresses and a new dressing gown for my stay and have packed my little bag with everything I thought I would need. But the physio mentioned skirts or shorts yesterday. What are you talking about I asked? "Oh we expect you to get dressed every day. Have you not heard of pyjama induced apathy"?

I am only in for three days, and wanted to lie in bed and read my book and browse the newspaper and eat grapes. Not have to get up and get dressed.

Yanbu, what in the world do they want you to get dressed up for.

I am having a new knee so they need easy access.

I think I normally suffer from jodhpur induced apathy.

I think I'd be buying some new shorty pyjamas and daring them to talk to me about my fashion choices!

I would love to try and get pyjama induced apathy. It sounds rather marvellous and much better than clothes on run off feet manicness

Pyjama induced apathy my ass. I don't expect my patients to get dressed post surgery and find it slightly odd when they do. (Unless going home)
Wear those PJs with pride!

I would take it with a pinch of salt tbh. I think you would kind of know if you are likely to get into a rut of pyjamaness on your return home. If not, then take the time to recharge, however that might be FOR YOU.

I think they had my mum up and walking the day after her surgery, phyiso etc.

I must find some slippers. Every time I have been in hospital I have been soundly bollocked for having bare feet.

When I was in hospital I was up and about, but I went in my PJs! It's not unusual to see patients wandering to the shop or cafe or even outside in PJs and dressing gown. Milk it while you can!

Bollocks to getting dressed. Hope it goes well and you're soon feeling better.

Tempted to name change to PyjamaInducedApathy.

I am having it done on the NHS but in a private hospital. I expect to be pampered. I doubt there will be the usual gaggle of PJ clad folk huddled at the entrance puffing away.

Well I have been shopping and couldn't find any suitable Jim jams with shorts. It will have to be nightie with some big girl pants.

I had mine done a couple of years ago and they do get you up and moving as soon as possible once the numbing nerve block wears off. you will need slippers or soft shoes but not mule type or they will shout at you they get you doing exercises that involve raising legs so baggy trousers or shorts are not a bad option if you don't fancy flashing your pants. also depends on how happy you are to be seen in nightie in the corridors when they get you walking the length of the corridor and climbing stairs with your crutches. saying that I wore my nightwear the whole time I was in. good luck, its a pain but you won't regret it, changed my life for the better.

Wear what you like but as pp said you would be more comfy wearing something with shorts as the exercises can be revealing!

If I was lovely and slim with nice legs then I would have dresses.

I have no dresses. Well not suitable for hospital.

Well she isn't wrong. An op will make you feel very woozy. And sorry for yourself. They judge patients by how well they look after themselves too. As in, are they getting better? How are they faring mentally? The quicker a person gets up, washes, gets dressed, the more human they feel. The quicker recovery happens. Whilst I get what you mean too, you can do that at home can't you? Wear pretty gowns, marabou if like! Hospital isn't exactly for relaxation. It's about getting better.

And good luck reading! Amount of visitors, you get naff all chance of that for blood tests, urine, tea, etc!

Dad had hip replacement on Friday. He's 76. By epidural. He was taken down at 0930. He was on ward at 1. He was up from bed by 5. It really isn't relaxing!

I had my knee done last year, Exit and I didn't get dressed till the morning I went home I wore a nightie and big pants and it was fine! Hope all goes well.

I've just spent four nights (unplanned) in hospital and never got dressed once, I got my husband to bring a clean pair of PJ's every day. No one ask me to get dressed. Hope everything goes well with your hospital stay, make the most of the rest.
