DP is unimpressed and damp. He just shook a bottle of squash, and it coated him and the kitchen as I hadn't put the lid on properly. This also happened earlier today when he used my bio oil, and is a regular occurrence.

Personally I don't understand his need to shake everything and think he should have learned that lids are carefully balanced on most things for ease of access after the first weekâ?¦ Or monthâ?¦ Or year?!

It seems a big faff to be screwing tops on properly if we're going to be using something throughout the day, and everything works perfectly for me without having mix things enough to cover myself and the nearby wall, floor or toddler, so please confirm I am not the unreasonable one!

YABU. Tops should be screwed on! Do you never knock things over?

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/05/2014 00:08

I have never shaken anything in my life without putting a thumb on the top. Same as checking the car isn't in gear every time. YANBU, he is.

Username877 · 31/05/2014 00:09

Hilarious.

People should check lids are secure before shaking...

PacificDogwood · 31/05/2014 00:10

YAbothU Grin

You should screw lids back on - that's what they are for.
He should've learnt by now.

HTH

WorraLiberty · 31/05/2014 00:10

YABU

What's the point in having a lid if you're not going to screw it on properly?

My kids used to do that with the squash until I started making them clean up the mess (after I'd shaken the bottle) and wash my clothes.

They learnt the error of their annoying ways Grin

Dragonlette · 31/05/2014 00:11

YABU I hate it when dp doesn't screw the lid on things. Why wouldn't you? It's not just about him shaking things, but knocking things over/dropping things etc. Just put the lid on. Especially if it's a regular occurrence that he makes a mess because he expects you to put lids on like most other people.

chocolateWaffles · 31/05/2014 00:11

strawberry surprisingly not. If it's a glass of water it will often be over within five minutes, but bottles seem safe!

YANBU. YOUR Bio Oil to screw or not as you see fit and who the feck SHAKES squash?? It's squash!

msmoss · 31/05/2014 00:12

This is why opposites shouldn't attract Grin

PrincessBabyCat · 31/05/2014 00:12

YABVVVVVVU Angry Angry

Bottles are meant to be shaken so the flavor is always evenly distributed. Lids are meant to be screwed on to lock in freshness.

I hate it when DH does this and I get crap on me.

MrsWinnibago · 31/05/2014 00:12

Dragon I'm guilty of it too...the only reason I can come up with is that the second or two it takes me to screw the cap on can be spent better elsewhere. I may give it one turn...

wafflyversatile · 31/05/2014 00:13

You are both being unreasonable.

For not screwing.

For shaking.

For not learning after all this time.

MrsWinnibago · 31/05/2014 00:13

Princess Bio Oil has no flavour. Squash is already evenly flavoured. The act of pouring will "wake it up" anyway.

Jbck · 31/05/2014 00:13

Always check lids for this very reason.

Dragonlette · 31/05/2014 00:15

But surely the time you save by not screwing a lid on is then wasted later by having to clean up the mess. Ok, it may not be your time that's wasted, but it's still time wasted either by you or by whoever has assumed you've put the lid on properly.

BackforGood · 31/05/2014 00:15

YABVVVVVVVVVVU
That's the point in having a screw top on a bottle - so you can er.... screw it back on afterwards.

readyforno2 · 31/05/2014 00:15

Another one who gets moaned at for not screwing lids on properly.
What's the point? You're just going to have to open it again?!
YANBU

AllAboveBroad · 31/05/2014 00:17

Sorry but what is he using the Bio Oil for?

chocolateWaffles · 31/05/2014 00:25

I'm feeling justified enough to carry on so far Grin
Allaboveboard, for an operation scar on his neck, though I caught him putting it on his face once to see if it would 'make his skin smooth'!

feathermucker · 31/05/2014 00:26

Wtf?!

Screw the lid.....simples Wink

Bellezeboobian · 31/05/2014 00:27

YABU

screw things on properly fgs.

Bellezeboobian · 31/05/2014 00:28

You're supposed to shake certain bottles of squash

maddening · 31/05/2014 00:28

Unless you have a medical condition that causes weak wrists yabu

squoosh · 31/05/2014 00:28

A pathological bottle shaker and a pathological bottle top untightener should never share a house.

Pack you bags and bid each other a tearful farewell.

ForeskinHyena · 31/05/2014 00:31

I always shake bottles, especially fresh juice which settles to sludge at the bottom if you don't shake it. I'm always peed off when DP or the DCs leave a lid balanced. I also pick up jars by the lid (big ones like Nutella can get slippery with little buttery fingers all over them) so often almost drop the whole thing if the lid isn't on tightly.

Yabu.
