Simple question do you put wet/damp washing in the washing basket. My DH who has OCD tendencies shouts at me when I do. He drys the item out first then puts it in.

Is this weird ......surely as washing is going to get anyway please tell me it's not me!!

Yes, although I'd try to wash it fairly quickly.

OwlCapone · 09/05/2014 07:54

Only if it is going to get washed quickly otherwise it stinks.

AnythingNotEverything · 09/05/2014 07:54

Only if it's going into the machine that day.

CeliaFate · 09/05/2014 07:54

He's right - damp, wet material is the biggest breeding ground for bacteria. The horrible smell is bacteria.

evertonmint · 09/05/2014 07:55

If it's getting washed that day, yes. Otherwise no - it smells damp and mouldy very quickly.

CeliaFate · 09/05/2014 07:55

Although I wouldn't dry the item out first, I'd wash it straightaway.

littlewhitebag · 09/05/2014 07:55

I don't put wet things in the dirty wash basket - i would wash them immediately. If you leave them they will smell and may go mouldy.

WandaDoff · 09/05/2014 07:56

It depends how soon you will wash it.
I wouldn't want wet washing hanging around in the basket for long, it would start to smell.

CoteDAzur · 09/05/2014 07:56

YABU, sorry. It's not OCD to put only dry clothes in the laundry basket.

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 09/05/2014 07:56

Not often as it stinks after a short time, tend to leave on utility floor or wash straight away.

OiYou · 09/05/2014 07:57

Is it getting washed straight away? (with everything else that it touches as those things are now damp too)

If yes, he is being unreasonable. If not, you are.

It's like cloth nappies go in to a special bin at our house. Wet rags get hung to dry until I do a rag wash at end of week

gymboywalton · 09/05/2014 07:58

I agree
If you put in wet and leave it, it will honk to high heaven start going g mildest very quickly

shoppingfrenzy · 09/05/2014 07:59

I wouldn't either. Nor would DP. But he wouldn't shout at me if I did....

Bunbaker · 09/05/2014 07:59

No. I would put it straight into the washing machine or put it somewhere to dry first. Your DH is not being OCD about this at all.

gymboywalton · 09/05/2014 07:59

Mildewy!!!!!

What is a wet rag wash?????????

Bloodyteenagers · 09/05/2014 08:04

It is not ocd to not want to put wet washing in a wash basket instead of leaving on floor near washer or putting straight into wash. It's common sense. Who in their right mind wants mildewy, smelly clothes? And it's not just those, its the stuff directly under the wet stuff as well.

Shouting possible extreme. But if it is something that repeatedly happens, despite nice quiet conversations about it, then yes I would start shouting in the hope that it would sink in.

Forgettable · 09/05/2014 08:04

Wet rags = floorcloths?

TheBuskersDog · 09/05/2014 08:05

Presumably you mean clothes that have got wet and now need washing, if so I would put them straight into the machine or on the floor near the machine, not in the laundry basket with other dirty clothes.

DurhamDurham · 09/05/2014 08:08

I' wouldn't put wet things in to the laundry basket, why would you? I'd put it in the washing machine and wash within 24 hours. Damp stuff starts to smell quickly, it's an awful smell.

Don't think my dh would shout ( or even notice ) if I did put damp things in the basket though.

OiYou · 09/05/2014 08:10

Yes forgettable. Floor/cleaning cloths. Confused I'd have thought wet rag wash was self explanatory!

Cereal0ffender · 09/05/2014 08:12

I put wet cloths and towels in a separate bucket and wash separately at 60

OiYou · 09/05/2014 08:12

Sorry missed the bit about shouting, if he is shouting then he is being unreasonable if by shouting however you mean gets annoyed and comments yabu

OiYou · 09/05/2014 08:13

I don't do any 60 washes (rubbish machine) so separate proper dirty stuff from clothes.

FunkyBoldRibena · 09/05/2014 08:13

He dries the item out, when he could very easily put the item in the machine, put some other things in the machine and do a wash himself?

Serious words would be had if my OH did this to be honest.

Bigbouncingbaby · 09/05/2014 08:13

We do wash daily but yes I guess I see his point it is quite gross!!my mum did it so must of got from her! Don't do very often so shouting was a bit over the top!!
