To put wet washing in the washing basket!

Simple question do you put wet/damp washing in the washing basket. My DH who has OCD tendencies shouts at me when I do. He drys the item out first then puts it in.

Is this weird ......surely as washing is going to get anyway please tell me it's not me!!

I put wet things in the washing basket. Our washing basket is plastic though. I do a wash every day though so it's fine.

Bigbouncingbaby · 09/05/2014 08:17

He can be very shouty over stupid things but will except defeat graciously on this one .

I am as lazy and untidy as they come, but I would not do this.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/05/2014 08:27

No, I'm a bit of a slattern and even I don't do that!

My running gear is often soaking because it pisses down a lot and that always goes straight in the machine! Couldn't bear the thought of wet washing on top of dry, a recipe for stinky washing!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/05/2014 08:28

I just throw wet things straight in the washing machine and they stay there until I put a wash on.

MeeWhoo · 09/05/2014 08:30

I tend to put wet items straight in the washing machine as long as they are going to be washed within 24 hours. If you put them in the washing basket, apart from the smell, colour may transfer to the dry items.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/05/2014 08:30

No, straight in the machine.

FunkyBoldRibena · 09/05/2014 08:31

Our machine is by the back door so if people come in drenched, they are stripped off [within reason] and the clothes go straight in the machine...the damp ones come off once they are changed and the wash goes straight on.

gymboywalton · 09/05/2014 08:31

Oh I call the dishcloths and wash them with the tea towels and towels

marleymooo · 09/05/2014 08:33

I don't put them in the basket but kind of hang over the side of it, so they dry out and aren't touching the other clothes if not going into the machine straight away.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 09/05/2014 08:49

We don't have a plastic washing basket, ours is wicker, so only clean things go in it. I might put clean wet washing in it to carry it over to the washing line, but I wouldn't put anything dirty in it.
Dirty cloths go in a bag or plastic box until they get washed.

ThatBloodyWoman · 09/05/2014 08:51

I hang them over the side to dry, rather than let them mix with the general populace of the washing basket.

qazxc · 09/05/2014 08:56

Wet items, like flannels or cloths for cleaning, I put direct in the washing machine drum. That way the rest of the washing in the basket won't get damp and mildewy.
Shouting at someone about it does seem a bit of a overeaction though.

Bigbouncingbaby · 09/05/2014 08:57

That's a good idea over the side ! To be fair have put straight in machine before so should stick to that !

How many times has he told you before not to do this? I can understand your DH getting shouty if you keep doing it despite being asked multiple times not to do it.

WowOoo · 09/05/2014 10:46

I accidentally left a soaking wet bath mat in with other dirty stuff.

Went away for 10 days and came back to the house stinking and a mouldy basket!
I can see his logic. But the worst case scenario (as above!) is really not the end of the world and easy to deal with.

IrrelevantSquirrel · 09/05/2014 11:51

No. Wet stuff like towels go straight in the washer when they need washing. If they were put in the washing basket they would go mildewy and potentially ruin other clothes. I know this because DH puts wet things in there despite being asked not to several times!

ZenGardener · 09/05/2014 13:48

Mold takes a few days to grow. If you are doing washing most days it is not a problem. I wouldn't put wet washing into a wicker basket but it is fine in a plastic basket that can be wiped clean and dried out.

There was absolutely no need for him to get shouty. It's just washing.

ThatBloodyWoman · 09/05/2014 14:13

One thing to watch out for is dye transfer.
Don't put any new, or cheap, dark wet clothes on top of a very nice white top.
Trust me.
