Someone has shared a FB viral photo of a guy on the tube asleep.on another guys shoulder. The story goes that the man asleep happens to be black and the man whose shoulder he is asleep on is Jewish. The photographer asked after a few minutes "Do you want me to wake him?" to which the Jewish man said "no no let him sleep he must have had a hard day, we have all been there". General round up is that isnt the Jewish man marvellous and noble for permitting the black man to sleep on his shoulder.

It has fucked me off.

Race, religion....why? A man on the tube says "ah weve all been there, let him sleep" as another man sleeps on his shoulder. Thats an act of kindness and understanding.

This viral reads as though (1) the photographer thought the man should be woken because he was black (2) the Jewish man was remarkable because he allowed a black man to sleep on his shoulder

Am I just reading too far into it?

And Ive just read some of the comments

"ahhh isnt he a great man"

That because he allowed a black man to sleep on his shoulder.

Am cross

why bring it on to MN, it will not end well...

weeblueberry · 08/05/2014 21:26

I think you need to link to it. Why don't you think the commenter just thinks it's a nice thing for him to do?

Is this meant to be a real situation? If so, how did they know the man was Jewish?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 08/05/2014 21:26

I've not seen this, I think you could be reading too much into it from your description

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 21:27

Erm because Im.not sure if I am being unreasonable to feel so strongly against it.

I didnt bring the viral to FB. I explained what it was in order to get some clarification as to whether I was correct to interpret it the way I have.

OP posts:
weeblueberry · 08/05/2014 21:28

Yeah well without seeing it we can't really interpret it ourselves though can we?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 21:29

Because the awake man is wearing a Kippah

OP posts:
StrawberryGashes · 08/05/2014 21:29

I think you could be reading too much into it, the 'isn't he a great man' comment could be because he didn't want to disturb the clearly exhausted man from sleeping until he had to.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 21:30

Im not sure....if someone has a conversation with someone and comes on here to see if the were BU or not, MNers dont say "well I cant judge as I wasnt part ofthe conversation".

I dont know how to link from FB but I will see if its on Pinterest.

YABU and definitely reading too much into it.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 21:31

OK. Thank you.

OP posts:
whatchatalkinboutwillis · 08/05/2014 21:32

Why do you care so much that the other man was black?

GeraldineFangedVagine · 08/05/2014 21:32

I've seen it,I didn't notice the black/jewish part but I did think it was mawkish bollocks. I think this for almost every single viral photo especially those which say '1 like = 1 respect' etc. No one would ever let a stranger sleep on them on the tube, most Londoners shit themselves if you accidentally make eye contact whilst commuting.

wheresthelight · 08/05/2014 21:33

Does the post specifically refer to Jewish/black? If not then Yabvu and need to get a life

you are seeing things that aren't there

CoffeeTea103 · 08/05/2014 21:35

Calm down and don't see everything as sinister Confused.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 21:36

The Jewish/Black aspects were very much referred to.

As I said, Id not be so Hmm if the photo was acompanied by a story of one man simply allowing a fellow tube passanger to sleep on his shoulder. It was the references to their race/religion that stood out.

bigdeal · 08/05/2014 21:37

yabu and you know it.

softlysoftly · 08/05/2014 21:38

Erm what? So the pic shows black/Jewish but this isn't in any way mentioned by the commentary?

YABU and thinking way too much into it.

Also it sounds a bit shit, not even really that emotive compared to most FB guff. Move on OP, move on

softlysoftly · 08/05/2014 21:40

Right so it is mentioned in the copy?

We need it word for word

QuietNinjaTardis · 08/05/2014 21:40

One of my friends liked this and yes it is made a big deal of the black man falling asleep on the Jewish mans shoulder. Load of bollocks the same as all these Facebook viral things.

gordyslovesheep · 08/05/2014 21:41

the full story is here - the picture is about people doing a good dead an being human ffs

500internalerror · 08/05/2014 21:41

I saw this a couple of months ago & it never occurred to me that it was a Jewish/black angle at all. I judt thought it was saying we should all be kinder to our fellow commuters.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 21:41

Yes it is mentioned. I said that.

I saw a picture and thought "ahh isnt that funny, a man has fallen asleep on another mans shoulder"

The wording then goes on ti explain how one man is black and the other is Jewish and isnt the Jewish man marvellous for allowing the black man to sleep on his shoulder.
