To be livid with my neighbours....

Relatively new neighbours have moved in. We have land that runs behind their garden which is clearly demarcated by a fence then a hedge (which we paid for and planted) on our side of the fence. This area is our veggie patch. We don't use any chemicals on our land, haven't for 6 yrs. AIBU to be completely pissed off that underneath the hedge behind their garden is completely bare brown soil, devoid of any weeds so they have obviously used weed killer on it. Right next to our bloody rhubarb. FFS!

On their land ? How very dare they Hmm

Mrsmorton · 05/05/2014 19:07

Did you tell them about your aversion to chemicals? They may not have realised and they may have assumed that you wash your rhubarb before eating it so they think it's no problem.

Joules68 · 05/05/2014 19:08

Yabu....

Joules68 · 05/05/2014 19:09

And really? You are 'livid'!??!

littlewhitebag · 05/05/2014 19:09

How do you know they didn't dig it over rather than week kill it? Tbh it's their land so i expect they can treat it how they want to.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/05/2014 19:10

So they used weedkiller on your side of the fence and under your hedge? If this is the case YANBU and should ask them nicely to ensure they only spray their property.

redandchecker · 05/05/2014 19:10

YANBU to be annoyed
But YABU if you think it's not their right, it's their land. Nothing you can do apart from maybe talk to them nicely but they may be a bit Hmm

ladymariner · 05/05/2014 19:11

Was their crystal ball broken???

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 05/05/2014 19:11

How can you tell it hasn't just been dug over?

qazxc · 05/05/2014 19:12

YABU they probably don't realise and it's also their land to do with as they please.

JeggingsHateMe · 05/05/2014 19:13

Wow. I'm positive they do not go to work to earn money to pay their bills so that the can keep a nice home just to please you!

YABVU.

ShatnersBassoon · 05/05/2014 19:15

Is it their land you think they've treated? I can't work it out.

Yanbu

Pesticides do not stick to the boundrys according to land registry and are very dangerous. They should of let people with bordering land know so you could mask it to prevent you home grown being inedible.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 05/05/2014 19:17

I can understand you're annoyance but this is why you should avoid having veggie plots on the side of your neighbours. All it takes is something like this or for them to let it get overran with something nasty and your plot is at risk.

Liara · 05/05/2014 19:17

So they used weed killer on your side of the fence?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2014 19:19

pesticides kill pests and herbicides kill plants. I only mention it after an embarrassing moment with a gardening judge.

Bowlersarm · 05/05/2014 19:21

Ha ha ha OP? Confused Shouldn't they be allowed to do what they want to with their very own garden?

YouAreMyFavouriteWasteOfTime · 05/05/2014 19:22

the OP says the hedge is hers so the land underneath it is hers, so it look like they have sprayed her land.

You have obviously never had properly bad jeremy Kyle type neighbours. Loud gatherings in garden all day and night tick. Drug dealing tick. Loud gangsta rap and drunken fights tick. Large aggressive dogs that leap fence and shit on lawn tick. Honestly see threads like this and think some people don't know they are born! (Note have moved out of London now thank god)

Runesigil · 05/05/2014 19:27

Bet you were not as narked as I was to find my 20 foot long 2 foot wide strip of specially grown organic nettles ( to be used for a spring tonic and as a veg) which were well within my garden had been sprayed with weedkiller by the people next-door...Angry Sad

If you looked at my garden soil beds and hedgeline, OP, you would think that I'd used weedkiller. I didn't though - dug twice and all weeds removed by hand.

How long did it take you to notice this (eg were you away for the weekend or something) and have you actually spoken to them about it?

MammaTJ · 05/05/2014 19:37

If this is really the worst they ever do, you will be doing a lot better than me with 'Reporting me to anyone and everyone for made up stuff' and 'throwing nappies over my fence and calling out 'Oi fat cunt'' at me neighbours.

No amount of explaining to these people would make a difference.

Chatting to yours and explaining nicely might. They might have also dug it over rather than using chemicals though.
