The last 3 weeks, I have used the scan and shop. Mainly because I go on a Monday morning and they have hardly any tills open. I can also pack as I go along and only have to bag everything once.
Now the last 3 Mondays I've had a rescan. It doesn't feel very 'random' to me, it feels like a bloody targeted attack Grin. I asked them at the time if I had scanned everything correctly and they said yes, the same amount if items had been scanned.
This morning, I took a deep breath and gave it one last go. The scanner died and took forever to bloody reboot midshop. It finally rebooted and as I went to scan again, the bastard scanner switched itself off again. I went to customer services and they kindly fixed me up with a new scanner. Finished the rest of my shop. Got to the till. FUCKING RESCAN!!! The bastards hate me Hmm
Aibu to hate everything?

What is a rescan?

sexypantsformum · 05/05/2014 18:50

every now and again i have 4 or 5 shops in a row that are rescans. and ive never been wrong on the amount of items..pisses me off no end.

Gurnie · 05/05/2014 18:53

Randomn is a funny thing though isn't it?! It literally can mean you will get checked 3 times in a row and then not for ages, same thing happens to my parents when they do their scanning at the supermarket.

MajesticWhine · 05/05/2014 18:54

YANBU. The whole thing is pointless if you get rescanned so often.

BrokenToeOuch · 05/05/2014 18:57

Penguin I do the scanning as I go with the little handheld scanner and put my shopping into my bags along the way. The idea is that you get to the till, give the assistant the scanner and they download the information straight into the till. Apparently, RANDOMLY, you get a rescan where you have to unpack all your shopping back on to the belt, it gets scanned by the member of staff and you have to pack it all again!

I use sainsburys fast track all the time. I've never had two scans consecutively. I would say it's approx once every 10 trips at most.

Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2014 19:25

I do the Scan and Shop in Tesco. Kate your experience is the same as mine. the scanner tells them how many things to scan. it seems v random too. Once I had bought eight things in a basket and they had to scan all eight. Grin

you do stand there with your heart in your mouth though just in case.

TheSkiingGardener · 05/05/2014 19:27

I don't think I've been rescanned in Waitrose for about 5 years! They were always lovely too, you'd get about 3 staff members doing the quickest scan ever so that you weren't delayed.

I understand why you're annoyed, but it's not the staff that decide, it's the computer. Maybe something you buy is down as catnip for burglars.

YY Kate or I have in my half asleep daze just not bothered scanning something. Shock

DotToDott · 05/05/2014 19:37

what is scan and shop? i have never heard of it!

i take it you get a scanner thingy and scan your shopping as you pick it up, rather than it going through a till at the end?

Tesco did their version of a scan the first few times after I signed up. Then it has been pretty random selection. The only time I've had to have the whole lot rescanned was when the random check bloke scanned the ham twice, which triggered a warning. My scanning was all OK tho.

I do wonder if tesco might not be better scanning all of one bag of expensive bit tho. I suspect if it is wrong, I'll have 5 packs of something rather than 6, 'cause the kids disrupted my counting!

Andrewofgg · 05/05/2014 19:46

To be in a huff with Sainsburys is normal. To shop there and not to be in a huff with them is an early warning signal of a previously unknown and very nasty STD or of the bubonic plague.

Coumarin · 05/05/2014 19:47

I've never heard of this scan it yourself malarkey. I want a go!

Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2014 19:50

Scan and Shop is my an anti social shoppers idea of heaven.

You don't have to speak to a soul. Smile

No conveyor, the shopping goes into the bags as you shop and doesn't come out til you get home. You can stop half way round to rearrange your bags and take as long as you like.

Perfect.

I remember Safeway had "Shop n Go" when I was at uni. It was shit but the green boxes were good

hugoagogo · 05/05/2014 20:00

I found I get more rescans if I dawdle in the dvds take ages going around.

I also seem to get rescans in bunches and then none for years, it's always when I have loads of stuff and am late/hungry/grumpy. Hmm

I still like it better than going through the stupid till.

WhateverHappenedToJasonStyles · 05/05/2014 20:01

I never go to Sainsburys usually, but will make the trek for oddities so end up with bags of meat, booze and clothes - you know, shop lifters paradise and always feel guilty about zapping it Grin Only had a couple of rescans though.

Agree re the Waitrose rescan - they pack your bags better than you would and even affinitize

Beachfarmandzootoo · 05/05/2014 20:01

Still using Safeway green boxes from my Uni years!

CSIJanner · 05/05/2014 20:10

Every time I go to Tesco, I'm selected for rescan. Every single bastardy time.

SueDNim · 05/05/2014 20:14

When DD was a baby, the Waitrose one seemed to know when she had kicked off and needed urgent attention, it was the only time I was picked for a rescan.

littleducks · 05/05/2014 20:19

I stopped using it about 6 years ago after too many rescans as it just wasn't faster.

londonrach · 05/05/2014 20:22

I hate sainsburys but that's flown to a strange day two lots of yogurts, an offer for said yogurts, three cashier running around the shop and two hours of my time! Never again... Mind you they did give me £20
