to be in a huff with Sainsburys?

The last 3 weeks, I have used the scan and shop. Mainly because I go on a Monday morning and they have hardly any tills open. I can also pack as I go along and only have to bag everything once.
Now the last 3 Mondays I've had a rescan. It doesn't feel very 'random' to me, it feels like a bloody targeted attack Grin. I asked them at the time if I had scanned everything correctly and they said yes, the same amount if items had been scanned.
This morning, I took a deep breath and gave it one last go. The scanner died and took forever to bloody reboot midshop. It finally rebooted and as I went to scan again, the bastard scanner switched itself off again. I went to customer services and they kindly fixed me up with a new scanner. Finished the rest of my shop. Got to the till. FUCKING RESCAN!!! The bastards hate me Hmm
Aibu to hate everything?

I think if your rescan matches what you scanned yourself the first time, you should win a fucking great big prize.

but it's not the staff that decide, it's the computer. Totally agree with you here, which is why I definitely am in a huff with Sainsburys the evil bastard company, not the kind helpful staff!

But 3 times out of my 4 fucking consecutive (did I mention that?) rescans, I've had to unpack my shopping and repack it all - it's totally defying the object of why I do it. And obviously, in theory, the other massive perk is minimal small talk with other humans!

Every time, I think to myself, "oh but I was scanned last time, they won't make me do it again" only to fall at the final hurdle. I set myself up for disappointment every time....

I think we must live in the back of beyond, we have none of this self scanning hand held thing at my local sainsburys. self-checkout is still a luxury Grin

A full rescan?!

to be in a huff with Sainsburys?
McSnuff · 05/05/2014 21:08

In Waitrose you're chosen randomly for a rescan, alledgedly. If something's out - I think I had two pre-packed veggies that were different prices but I'd scanned one of them twice - then the next time you're in, you're a re-scan again. But they don't tell you if the rescan shows anything as the computer doesn't let them know - you'd have to memorise the final total before the rescan and check it against the final answer.

One of the kind assistants gave me the following advice - following a rescan, don't buy a full trolleyful the next time, just buy one or two items. You can't go wrong and so the system thinks you're good again. Do that once or twice and then go for the trolley-load again.

Mcsnuff - how do they know to target you next time? How do they recognise you?

Wherever you use the scanners, Waitrose, Tesco or Sainsburys you have to swipe a card to get a scanner so that it recognises you. That's how they track who's stealing the balsamic pearls.

SomethingOnce · 06/05/2014 09:33

Agree re the Waitrose rescan - they pack your bags better than you would and even affinitize

What is this wonderful word 'affinitize'?!

MarcusAurelius · 06/05/2014 09:42

Its annoying and consecutive re-scans are crazy but the staff can override it and they often do at my local Sainsburys.

BrokenToeOuch · 06/05/2014 16:59

Well Marcus they bloody well don't at mine! I had calmed down about it after my infuriating day with another shop and sodding parcelforce, but this thread has reminded me of just how much I hat everything at the moment Grin

Shop at Tesco instead. They only rescan half a dozen things.

WhateverHappenedToJasonStyles · 06/05/2014 20:35

Something You've never been LeanSigma'd, or 6sigma'd or whatever Grin Just means putting things that are the same, together.

Also a word that annoys the shit out of any normal human being.
