Because in my job it can make a situation more comfortable. Everyone can answer that question. It gets the conversation going. Like it's been bad weather today. Patient reply yes I have been into the garden. I can then talk about their garden for one example...

It's friendly, neutral ground. Somewhere comfortable to start a conversation. Often sparks something amusing. You can move on to more profound stuff very soon if you wish. I like it!

Some people find this a good place to start.
And I do often notice the weather, it affects people's mood and their plans for the day, so, sorry YABU .... but here's a sunny, smiley face anyway!

Where I live, the weather is interesting. Back in March, we had a week where on Monday the temperature was in the 70s (F), and literally three days later it was snowing. Crazy, and interesting.

You might not talk to someone when they are busy but I am sure you witter on and annoy others yourself sometimes
