To wish people would stop their children picking wildflowers

We've just walked home and seen several children with big bunches of bluebells and other flowers. As nice as it is for them, they'll not last long at home and those bunches have wiped out most of the bluebells on out little stretch of road. I do know its not earth shattering but I was always told to leave alone everything except daisies and dandelions and have passed the same onto my children.

I agree. There were loads of lovely daffodils a few weeks ago outside out local soft play and children were picking loads for their mums. The parents stood there laughing and sayin "Oh how sweet!" Etc.
It really wound me up!

You seem to have an arbitrary view of what is acceptable, ie the flowers you think are alright to pick versus what other people have picked so YABU.

I felt really cross-and one of the children was a good friend's. had to suck it up and release on Aibu!

I don't like it either tbh, dc's have only ever been allowed to pick flowers from our garden so I do sympathise

But dandelions and daisies come back and there are masses. Bluebells are once in the year.

Every day on the way to pre school dd2 picks a few flowers, bluebells and some other white flowers (no idea what they are), it makes her happy and she looks forward to it.

My ds picks some everyday he picks the Daisy's in the grass so weeds really. He's not allowed to pick anything else as they are there for everyone to enjoy

YANBU We had the same rule growing up, daisys and dandelions are weeds and so we could pick them. I get annoyed at parents who allow their kids to pick bluebells and daffodils too, leave them there for everyone to enjoy.

Are they genuine 'wildflowers' that are protected?

If not then YABU and completely joyless.

Hedgehog apt name really...your DD is happy - great - but if everyone picks a few then there are none left. Leave them there and everyone can enjoy them.

YANBU. It's a real shame other people don't agree. Whilst the flowers are growing wild they are there for everyone to enjoy. In fact it is selfish to pick them.

I hate this as well, it drives me crazy when I see people picking poppies

I've told my DD's it's illegal and they can only pick daisy's and weeds, one of them accidentally picked a snowdrop once and was so scared she'd be arrested that she cried

There is a lovely inner city park near us. Every spring parents let their young children pick (and then drop/squash/throw away) massive bunches of daffodils. From a public park .

WTF are they thinking?

And I've taught my DD's not to pick flowers in parks and then they see these kids, and their massive bunches of picked flowers, or even worse in action picking them, and they wonder what I'm on. This is the time I will 'loud parent' and explain, yet again, that the flowers are for everyone to enjoy and are NOT to be picked by the offspring of over entitled fuckers children.

But really, picking flowers from a public park - what are they thinking? How entitled must they be????

whats worse you can buy daffs for about a pound a bunch and they will last much longer than ones picked in the park.
