Apologies if there's a thread on this already that I haven't seen, and also that I can't do links.. But basically the Fail on Sunday printed a vile article today in which a reporter posed as needy in order to get food from a food bank, then did a hatchet job on food banks as a result.
The lovely thing is that the Trussell Trust have raised thousands on the back of the article, with people donating all day and registering disgust with the Mail article.
AIBU to be experiencing a warm glow and rush of hope for humanity?

Daily Fail, failed again!

SpiderNugent · 20/04/2014 21:26

Makes you wonder why its the most popular paper in the country, everyone hates it, nobody buys it and yet .....

Snatchoo · 20/04/2014 21:31

I just saw thins linked to on Facebook!

The article is completely idiotic - 'no questions asked' in the headline then goes onto list all the questions asked. Which were multiple and in depth.

I hate the DM. Shame their website is the most user-friendly for news (not that I ever read it, I hasten to add!)

ForalltheSaints · 20/04/2014 21:51

Something good has come from the paper that supported the Blackshirts for once.

squoosh · 20/04/2014 21:53

YANBU

It's like something from Brass Eye. What an utter hack, basically stealing food from the deprived. The reaction has been fantastic, one in the eye for that toad Iain Duncan Smith.

From now on I'm going to make a more concerted effort not to click on the DM website.

thecatfromjapan · 20/04/2014 21:54

I didn't know this. Thank you Springheeled. Will google Trussell Trust first thing tomorrow and join the feel-good bandwagon. Grin Oh, and YANBU.

Ubik1 · 20/04/2014 21:54

I know

Shame on the DM

gordyslovesheep · 20/04/2014 21:55

YANBU at all Grin

GreatSoprendo · 20/04/2014 21:58

The DM have made themselves look ridiculous (if they hadn't already). Their journo was asked lots of questions by the CAB who he saw first, who then referred him on to the food bank. Of course they didn't ask him all the same questions again! As far as they knew he was in a huge crisis!

Loving the public response to this. If you like it too, you can donate to the Trussell Trust Easter appeal here

As an aside, wonder if there's a website where you can pledge to never (knowingly) click on a DM link again? If not there should be.

ThisIsMyRealName · 20/04/2014 22:01

YANBU

Saw this earlier. Good to know that (despite the best efforts of the DM) most British people still believe in basic humanity and dignity.

Catmint · 20/04/2014 22:05

Absolutely wonderful response, Trussell Trust is a very worthwhile charity.

And CAB is also a charity which changes lives every day. ( I notice it is a MN staple)

Both organisations should be proud of what they achieve.

Topaz25 · 20/04/2014 22:06

Here's an article about it with links to donate:
www.buzzfeed.com/tomphillips/that-mail-on-sunday-article-attacking-food-banks-just-made-t

It's inspiring to see something so positive come out of something negative.

Monty27 · 20/04/2014 22:11

Anyone got a link? TIA

Bettercallsaul1 · 20/04/2014 22:12

I hate this attempt to discredit foodbanks. Of course, their very existence shames the government, so the right-wing press have to try to bring them into disrepute. So glad the attempt backfired!

ouryve · 20/04/2014 22:14

YANBU. Twitter was absolutely hopping with the hypocrisy of the story and the incongruity between the headline and what the article actually said, by lunchtime.

Dawndonnaagain · 20/04/2014 22:16

I do love it when the Fail ends up with egg on its face!

ouryve · 20/04/2014 22:17

Mairzy if you use firefox, you can use the tea and kittens add on, which redirects DM links to pictures of tea and kittens (funnily enough). Diana Express links meet the same fate.

Having the add on means that I have the opportunity to open a link to a positive article in a different browser, but don't inadvertently give them clicks for their typical dross.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/04/2014 22:48

Great comment on the buzzfeed piece

'EXCLUSIVE: HOW I GOT FREE BREAD AND FISH FROM JESUS, WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED!'

Nennypops · 21/04/2014 00:11

Lovely to think about the vagina monologue currently coming from Dacre's lips. It's great when their sheer cynical dishonesty comes back to bite them.

EasterBunnyFuntStoleAllTheEggs · 21/04/2014 00:39

Ha! That is epic Easter Grin stupid Daily Fail.

One thing that confused me though, that Buzzfeed oage keeps referring to Mail On Sunday, is that the DM or a different paper? (Don't buy/read/pay attention to newspapers...)

EasterBunnyFuntStoleAllTheEggs · 21/04/2014 00:40

Buzzfeed page

squoosh · 21/04/2014 00:47

That's what the Sunday edition is called. Like the Times/Sunday Times.
