Apologies if there's a thread on this already that I haven't seen, and also that I can't do links.. But basically the Fail on Sunday printed a vile article today in which a reporter posed as needy in order to get food from a food bank, then did a hatchet job on food banks as a result.
The lovely thing is that the Trussell Trust have raised thousands on the back of the article, with people donating all day and registering disgust with the Mail article.
AIBU to be experiencing a warm glow and rush of hope for humanity?

Good. At least he has some morals...
Just checked on Twitter, he returned the food and made a donation apparently. He's getting slaughtered on there.

KissesBreakingWave · 21/04/2014 11:55

He's still committed an offence.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 21/04/2014 18:42

He got the food on Thursday and returned it Sunday morning, with a £10 donation. However, it seems his story was given a different slant to the one he anticipated, he was surprised at the abuse he got online, till the manager of the foodbank read the story to him over the phone.

Springheeled · 21/04/2014 18:52

Poor chap, but whatever did he expect the MoS would do with his findings? And photo???! It looks as though donations are now at about £50 000!

I don't understand why the story would have been a surprise to the journalist - surely he would have realised what slant would have been put on the story?

Still, it is great to know that this particular piece of bigotry and benefit bashing has failed so spectacularly! It makes even the stone cold heart of an old cynic like me melt slightly.

It's like the Sunday Sport, isn't it? "B52 Bomber found on Moon".

lollerskates · 21/04/2014 19:32

This is great! I donated to our local foodbank a couple of weeks ago and this has reminded me to pick up some extras fro them at the supermarket tomorrow. The Mail are a bunch of absolute cunts.

lollerskates · 21/04/2014 19:33

*for them, not from them!

Topaz25 · 22/04/2014 14:15

What did the journalist expect when he wrote an expose on food banks for the Daily Mail, which involved lying to take food from a charity? I have trouble believing a journalist is that naive.

squoosh · 22/04/2014 14:32

He knew full well how they would frame his findings. Only a few weeks ago he won Scoop of the Year at the Press Awards for his uncovering of the Co-op Paul Flowers drugs scandal. He's a seasoned hack.
