How long did it take for your periods to return?

My last injection was 16th October, was due to have another on 8th January but they said I needed a break. So I'm almost four months off it and no periods. I'm also bloated and hormonal for at least last two weeks but nothing to show for it.

wonderingsoul · 27/03/2014 18:35

almost a year for me to, and i was on it for 2 n a bit years with n o break.

LumionaMoonsplash · 27/03/2014 18:35

I was 17, thought I'd broken my body. They were not regular again until after DC1

HouseLikeAZoo · 27/03/2014 18:36

About 4 or 5 months - but it took a further 8 months for things to settle and for DS1 to be conceived. I was mid twenties at the time.

Tiredemma · 27/03/2014 18:38

I got PG on the depo. Found out at 24 weeks. Its obviously now not my preferred choice of contraception.

PotteringAlong · 27/03/2014 18:40

First time round they never returned - I was pregnant 7 weeks after the last injection. 2nd time was 3 months.

Nohootingchickenssleeping · 27/03/2014 18:41

I did a pregnancy test about a month ago as was feeling sick for days, no actual vomiting. Came up negative, but they've never worked on me anyway. Tempted to do another. We've been very careful but that can mean nothing!

I didn't have a period between my injection running out and getting pregnant with dd and I'd had it back to back for 2 years. Literally ran out and I was expecting 6 weeks later

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 27/03/2014 19:03

Well I had break through bleeding almost constantly on the Depo, so I was swapped straight on to the pill. So I technically had a period 4 weeks after I stopped the Depo. But I was told by a Dr it takes a year to 18 months for things to return to normal after you stop the depo just before I started the Depo.

30SecondsToVenus · 27/03/2014 19:10

I'm the same as you - was due my last injection on the 6th of January but didn't go for it because I was bled constantly for 36 days leading up to needing another Injection. I have had irregular light bleeding but no proper period until now. Well, I think it's a period but it's very very light which is unusual for me.

Last time I was on Depo (3 years ago) it was 11 months until my period returned properly. I'll never use it again

Bazoo23 · 27/03/2014 19:56

7 months. But then I had a period every other week until I got pregnant.
Evil horrid thing.

Bazoo23 · 27/03/2014 19:58

OP symptoms of the depo "leaving your system" as such are very similar to pg symptoms.
I remember being utterly convinced I was.

Nohootingchickenssleeping · 27/03/2014 20:06

I was really ill with early pregnancy symptoms for first week coming off it. Very light bleed, tired, I even fainted.

Just done a test. It's a big fat negative so we'll keep playing the waiting game. I only want my period so I can go back on it. I hate condoms and I hate feeling crabby and murderous hormonal.

Took me about five months to have any bleeding, I love it though, unlike everyone else on this thread!

chattychattyboomba · 27/03/2014 21:09

I'm one of the rare people who had bleeding for the entire 3 months. It took another 6 weeks after it was supposed to have 'worn off' to stop bleeding, and my period commenced pretty much as normal after that...the depo is indeed evil.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 27/03/2014 21:51

A year, twice.

Both times it's only been on it for about 6 months.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 27/03/2014 21:52

I'd*

LizzieMint · 27/03/2014 21:56

Over a year. I went to docs and had a hormone pill to kickstart things as we wanted to TTC. I also love it and went back on as soon as we were done having babies.

myothernameiswashingherhair · 27/03/2014 22:03

over a year. I hot pg on 3rd cycle after they finally returned. was on it for 4yrs

Tinkerisdead · 27/03/2014 22:09

I bled on it too, three months constantly and got told it would settle down so had the next one. Bled again so six month long period. Ruined my relationship too as it was in its infancy really and quite off putting for us both!

maddening · 27/03/2014 22:21

not long but it totally didn't agree with me - so glad not to be on it - turns out I have pcos and suspect part of my hormone imbalance through that relates to progesterone - on the pill I put on 3 stone in a year with no change to lifestyle and when my pg ended in early mc at 8 weeks I had put on 2 stone in 2 mths ! And 6 weeks after ds was born I was still 5-6 stone over pre-pregnancy weight - I couldn't lose weight on the depo at all and piled it on easily.

maddening · 27/03/2014 22:24

ps have you tried tracking / charting temps etc and testing with opks ? Your Dr might be able to give you something to kick start it but also maybe look at pre pregnancy vitamins etc

gobbledegook1 · 27/03/2014 22:39

First time round it took 18 months after having been on it for around 2 years.

Second time I was only on it for a few months as within a couple of weeks of the first jab I started bleeding quite a lot every time I had sex, I was diagnosed with cervical ectropian, I asked to go on the pill instead convinced it was the jab that caused ut but was told that the pill was likely to make the condition worse and they were reluctant because of my history of severe headaches but eventually I got so fed up I insisted on giving it a go. No sooner than it had worn off my condition vanished and my period returned allowing me to go on the pill pretty quickly. Not had an issue since.

ohldoneedtogetagrip · 27/03/2014 23:05

I only want my period so I can go back on it.
Well if that's the case do another pregnancy test in 2 weeks and always use condoms. If that test is negative you are not pregnant and can go back on depo
