Or at least call their hosts before they turn up? I am talking about my FIL. He is boring and hard work at the best of times. He does not want the dinner I have got in for him, just dry toast.. Am sahm to 2 and 4 year olds so no scope for time off if ill...

unless they are 48 hrs post bug then YANBU

Blu · 21/03/2014 17:35

I would tell them that they need to re-arrange for when he has come out of quarantine. If it is a bug MIL may well go down with it while at yours.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2014 17:36

And you let him in why?

expatinscotland · 21/03/2014 17:36

You tell them not to come and re-arrange.

DoJo · 21/03/2014 17:38

How long since he was last actually suffering symptoms?

Slothful · 21/03/2014 17:40

Oh dear, if he's still on the "just dry toast" stage he should be at home.

pussycatdoll · 21/03/2014 17:40

Let him make his own toast
Or get his son to do it ?

bubblegoose · 21/03/2014 17:42

How inconsiderate. If you're not going to chuck him out I hope he has his own bathroom!

BeverleyMoss · 21/03/2014 17:42

Is he already there? Ye gods I would be very unhappy about that

YANBU

wobblyweebles · 21/03/2014 17:43

More than 24 hours past the bug I'm OK with them arriving. Any less and I might lock the doors.

tholeon · 21/03/2014 17:43

He is here, watching tv with my four year old. He didn't tell me he had been ill until he walked in and started regaling me with lovely stuck to the toilet related tails. Mil is divorced from him, sensibly. I can't exactly walk in and ask him to go, can I???

Tales...

What an inconsiderate oaf.

Losthearts · 21/03/2014 17:44

Try and keep your kids away from him, if you can

bubblegoose · 21/03/2014 17:46

I can't exactly walk in and ask him to go, can I???

It depends. Would you rather ask him to go or risk having the family fall ill?

I would find it very difficult but then again none of my relatives would ever put me in this position.

Slothful · 21/03/2014 17:48

Make sure you cook all food thoroughly and you and your kids to wash hands thoroughly before eating, that's probably your best hope for not catching it.

whereisshe · 21/03/2014 17:53

Oh dear. If it was my FIL I'd ask him nicely to leave and please come back when he's well as I wouldn't want the DCs to get it. But then I have quite a good relationship with my PILs.

tholeon · 21/03/2014 17:58

He is here until Sunday. I think he gets lonely by himself and wanted illness related sympathy. He has bought a load of half eaten food from his fridge as well.. Think will chuck when he is not looking. Last 'episode' was last night...

NoonarAgain · 21/03/2014 18:04

I had a friend visit me when her dds had been ill. One actually vomited on my stairs as she wasn't totally better. We all caught it!

Then another friend came to my fondue party less than 48 hrs after vomiting! Can you believe that? Get out the hand gel, wile all surfaces and door handles with dettol.

Do you have more than one bathroom? If so, confine him to 1 of them. I swear that works to contain bugs.

NoonarAgain · 21/03/2014 18:04

'Wipe'

missinglalaland · 21/03/2014 18:05

If he can still only eat dry toast, he really should have stayed at home.

AreYouBlueOrAreYouBlind · 21/03/2014 18:13

Lots of hot soapy water is your friend, clean yours and the dc hands regularly, wipe down surfaces. If it's noro alco-gel isn't effective against it.
You might be ok, but I must admit I'd be a tad pissed off with him.

tholeon · 21/03/2014 18:15

I am ostentatiously wiping the dc's hands with anti bac wipes frequently but he is very thick skinned and I doubt he has noticed. He does have his own loo which we will stay out of.

How far has he travelled? If not too far I'd send him home. Have to say YANBU at all to think he should have cancelled.

PuppyMonkey · 21/03/2014 18:23

Last night? What a twat. And half eaten food from his fridge? Brilliant idea.

I'd put your kids to bed and go off to your own room if you really can't bring yourself to tell him to leave.
