Friend recently split with partner and posted a status along the lines of 'if you are not fucking, feeding or financing me, your opinions don't count'

Now I'm not a feminist but really don't understand the sentiment- is it me? Hmm

OP posts:
deakymom · 18/03/2014 21:16

unless she has a child with him its a fair point he is her ex his opinion doesnt matter

Famzilla · 18/03/2014 21:16

Eww. What an odd and incredibly cringe-worthy thing to say.

ParsleyTheLioness · 18/03/2014 21:16

It would suggest to me that he is still trying to control her....I wouldn't take it literally.

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 21:17

it's not you

WooWooOwl · 18/03/2014 21:19

I would read that as blatant attention seeking and a tasteless airing of dirty laundry in public.

Bearbehind · 18/03/2014 21:19

No children.

It just read to me like it was OK for him to impose his opinion on her if he was feeding, fucking or financing her and I just don't get why that gives you such rights.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 21:21

it doesn't

your friend has some funny ideas about what constitutes a relationship

yep, she might be hurting but it doesn't excuse such thinking, tbh

CuttedUpPear · 18/03/2014 21:22

Unpleasant status yes, but I've heard it before, it's been copied from somewhere.

On another note -
Why are you not a feminist, OP - do you not believe that women should be treated equally to men?

Onesleeptillwembley · 18/03/2014 21:23

That's just trashy and vulgar.

fraggleland · 18/03/2014 21:24

why aren't you a feminist? Would you prefer women to not be equal to men? Yes your friends status was silly, but no sillier than you saying you are effectively against women being equals.

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 21:24

feminist or not, that kind of shit does nothing for the general respect of women

fraggleland · 18/03/2014 21:25

xpost with cuttedup.

wishful75 · 18/03/2014 21:25

I find it more concerning when a woman states they are not a feminist....

daisychain01 · 18/03/2014 21:26

Hmmm, classy status Confused

NoodleOodle · 18/03/2014 21:27

I find it more odd that you openly admit to not being a feminist.

MargotLovedTom · 18/03/2014 21:27

Yes, very classy.

BumpyGrindy · 18/03/2014 21:29

It could be that he is bossing her about financially...with no right to...perhaps it's actually a line he's said to her in the past.... "I'm feeding you and financing you...you have to do as I say" type of thing.

Bearbehind · 18/03/2014 21:31

Me being a feminist or not is not the point of this.

I don't believe you should be treated differently, positively or negatively, just because of your gender but I did think this status was condoning the 'men owning women' idea.

OP posts:
Lj8893 · 18/03/2014 21:31

I've seen this status too, don't think its the same person as the person I saw post it has a child with her ex.

I also had Hmm face when I saw it, but then like others have posted already I also had Hmm that face when you said your not a feminist?! Bizarre.

Lj8893 · 18/03/2014 21:33

Sorry x post.

From what you have just said, it appears that actually you are a feminist!

wishful75 · 18/03/2014 21:33

So you are actually a feminist then....

LizSurly · 18/03/2014 21:33

Yeh! Be a feminist for godssake

Bearbehind · 18/03/2014 21:35

Ok, bad choice of words- sorry. The point of my post still stands though- why would you let yourself be defined by who fucked, fed and financed you?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 21:38

I think lots of women don't actually understand feminism. They think it is about not shaving your legs, eschewing lipstick and hating men.

Anyway, like OP said, this thread isn't about that, other than the FB status quoted is spectacularly non-feminist Smile

DoJo · 18/03/2014 21:39

It just read to me like it was OK for him to impose his opinion on her if he was feeding, fucking or financing her and I just don't get why that gives you such rights.

I don't read it that you would have the right to impose your opinion if you were doing any of those three things, just that she might entertain your thoughts if you were close enough to fall into one of those categories.
It's not something I would have posted, but I don't think it is as weird if you don't assume that she is somehow succumbing to the will of anyone who is feeding, fucking or financing her.
