To raise an entirely appropriate Brew to the memory of this man.

A superior shocialist, as Peter Tinniswood (of blessed memory) styled him.

“I did not enter the Labour Party 47 years ago to have our manifesto written by Dr Mori, Dr Gallup and Mr Harris”
If only there were more like that. RIP Tony Benn, you were a lifelong hero of mine.

zen1 · 14/03/2014 09:25

I admired his integrity and principles. Saw him speak many times at rallies against hospital PFIs and with the Stop the War Coalition. He will be greatly missed. RIP

ohmymimi · 14/03/2014 09:46

An honorable man. A life well lived.

nice stjohn, and because of great, radical activists like Benn, who fought for, and defended the principles of democracy, you have the right to say what you like, however cuntish it may be.

stjohn10 · 14/03/2014 10:11

God I despise socialists.

Pagwatch · 14/03/2014 10:13

I'm sure they will be pretty pleased about that.
I would rather have your contempt than your praise stjohn10.

Pagwatch · 14/03/2014 10:14

RIP
A decent honourable man. Sadly rare these days amidst twattish show ponies.

Paleodad · 14/03/2014 10:15

...as is your democratic right stjohn

Dawndonnaagain · 14/03/2014 10:18

stjohn10 joined the site just to post nasty remarks on this and the other thread. Either that or it's someone with a namechange and no courage.

Pagwatch · 14/03/2014 10:20

Ahhh. Stjohn10 is either a massive twat then, or a regular with no courage at all.

LadyRabbit · 14/03/2014 10:21

A decent decent man of principle. I once heard him asked in a radio interview why he had never attempted to become prime minister and he replied it was a greasy pole to power that meant too many compromises of belief. It's a shame our current crop of career politicians aren't cut from a similar cloth. His views were waaay left of my own but I still loved and respected him. A sane, kind voice in a sea of sound bites. RIP Tony, you were a mensch.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 14/03/2014 10:21

I heard him speak at a CND rally once, he was inspiring, and an activist to the end.

gordyslovesheep · 14/03/2014 10:22

stjohn I am sure the feeling is mutual

AskBasil · 14/03/2014 10:25

I hope St John never uses the NHS, British socialist scum's greatest achievement

Hmm
fideline · 14/03/2014 10:26

RIP Tony Brew

Bad week for socialism

TwoLeftSocks · 14/03/2014 10:27

I'll raise a Brew to him too.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 14/03/2014 10:31

The last man standing. Sad

Go safe good fella.

And thank you for educating me. As I will educate my daughter.

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 10:32

Didn't share his views but enjoyed hearing him speak. RIP, he will be missed.

This is not the thread for poisonous posts (though some members of the MN Left did not share this scruple when Margaret Thatcher died).

Jux · 14/03/2014 10:33

Wonderful man. We don't make them like that any more, sadly, wirh great integrity and principled. RIP. He will be much missed.

NotEnoughTime · 14/03/2014 10:37

RIP Tony Benn Flowers
A true gentleman and feminist.

lionheart · 14/03/2014 11:38

Yes, a man with principles and a passion for what he thought was right.

Very few politicians like that.

Flowers
cricketpitch · 14/03/2014 13:15

Agree, always admired him. He looked a bit like my Dad so I always felt fond of him, (irrelevant I know).
RIP Tony Thanks

LineRunner · 14/03/2014 13:19

And a wonderful writer.

Iggi101 · 14/03/2014 13:22
