AIBU to have an irrational hatred for the term 'holibobs'

Seriously...where has this come from? I hate it! It's not even like it's any shorter than saying 'holidays'.

Should add I also can't stand the terms 'kiddies' and 'poorly'...kids and ill/sick are fine though. Do I have some odd disorder?

agree with first too, whats wrong with poorley? and no cant stand....kids.

if you have a disorder so do I.

hootloop · 19/02/2014 15:56

I don't like holibobs, it sounds daft to me.
I don't like kiddies either but then my children are are always referred to as children as they are not goats.

IdRatherPlayHereWithAllTheMadM · 19/02/2014 15:56

Like your name BTW Smile

ConfusedDotty · 19/02/2014 15:57

I hate hollibobs and jollies.. but not as much as I hate tummy and yummy.....and Yummy Mummy, don't get me going

IdRatherPlayHereWithAllTheMadM · 19/02/2014 15:58

Umm not keen on tummy either but do not like stomach either...

I think small child saying tummy is fine not adult.

IdRatherPlayHereWithAllTheMadM · 19/02/2014 15:58

_ better slip in ta here...loathe it.

lastnightIwenttoManderley · 19/02/2014 15:59

Ta :) I think 'poorly' is that it is always said in a slightly patronising way and accompanied by a head tilt in my experience. I'm a bit more matter of fact about things...

The worst thing I can hear is 'so and so has a poorly tummy' AGH!

Hilarious...was about to ask if we were the same person and then I noticed the first word of my last post...oops!

OP posts:
lastnightIwenttoManderley · 19/02/2014 16:00

In all honesty, I have no idea why I even say 'Ta'!

I hate holibobs too, especially when seen on Facebook by someone showing off. Asking to get burgled.

tolittletoolate · 19/02/2014 16:10

I hate any sort of slang or shortening of words.
My best friend does it all the time and it drives me mad!

ConfusedDotty · 19/02/2014 16:17

Ha ha, asking to be burgled, never thought of that, that would certainly ruin the hubby's hollibobs.

I hate the word belly aswell.

ConfusedDotty · 19/02/2014 16:18

Up here people say 'our lass' or 'our lad' when referring to thier OH, I cringe at that.

gamerchick · 19/02/2014 16:20

I like the word holibobs and will continue to use it Grin

Supercosy · 19/02/2014 16:22

I've never actually heard that word.....it's hilarious! It's the sort of stupid thing I would say when talking in the made up voice I use for my dog (if she had a voice!). One that I hate is spag bol, and also belly. UGH!

Slebmum · 19/02/2014 16:22

Not as bad as 'playdate' but nearly! Oh, and nomnomnom.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 19/02/2014 16:22

YABU

It is an entirely rational hatred.

JabberJabberJay · 19/02/2014 16:23

'Holibobs' is hideous. I also dislike 'poorly' but the absolute worst is people referring to their children as 'littlies' or 'smalls'. Makes me want to throw things.

hootloop · 19/02/2014 16:28

DH hates nomnomnom, sometimes I say it to wind him up.

I like poorly, I think its appropirate to lash on the sympahty and whatever when a poorley kid has tummy ache, esp when on their holibobos.

ConfusedDotty · 19/02/2014 16:32

Lush, I hate the word lush, arrggghh, this thread is getting me angry now.

RiojaHaze · 19/02/2014 16:35

7 sleeps til holibobs is the one that grates me!

Naicecuppatea · 19/02/2014 16:37

Nom Nom is my worst, ugh. Holibobs is pretty bad too, but thankfully I've never yet heard it said in RL.

MysteryCat · 19/02/2014 16:37

In Sainsburys today a man asked his children where the 'clothes for sproglets' were! I had to walk away, fists clenched. Agree with 'holibobs', 'nom' and 'littlies' - all awful!
