To go round to my MIL and do this..

Today MIL calls and says are we in about 12 they will bring lunch, so I say lovely bring some baguettes I will make them up for us all.

MIL & her partner arrive with pre made sandwiches from tescos, none of which I can eat as allergic to mayonnaise (fine not everyone can remember) she then goes 'oh I can't do anything right' I make myself a sandwich

they then proceed to sit on the sofa and scoff their sandwiches and WIPED their crumbs onto my floor!!! 1 year dd was on the floor and made a bee line for the crumbs. I am full of cold, had just finished all the cleaning before they arrived when I said in a jokey way 'look at the mess you've made' I was told by her partner I will have to hoover again!!

So wibu to go around their house eat the flakiest sausage roll I can find over their freshly hoovered bloody carpet and see how they like it?

Do you generally have a good relationship with them? It just seems like such a small issue to be so concerned about

Pre made sandwiches are an expensive choice, a yummy baguette would have been cheaper and nicer and you would have been less grumpy about the crumbs from that!

I think you can be more inventive than a crumbly sausage roll though! You have a young DD who can probably get away with anything, get her on the case!

We have a very strained relationship.

They have no respect, never take their shoes off either which rages me to the brim.

I would be annoyed over the lack of my lunch she knows I am allergic but also forgets what she says 10 minutes ago. So I will let it slide.

Everyone had plates, dd (4) was holding her sandwich over the plate.

It's the blatant wiping of crumbs onto the floor

It's almost like she's pissing on your territory.

Insist they eat at the table next time and tell them to take their shoes off, it's yoyr house.

Be assertive.

I think i would remember if one of my close family were allergic to mayo. YANBU and they are being twats.

I try to pick my battles.

It goes between quite liking her company, but then when she is with her partner she is different.

she has a cleaner come in to her house so doesn't do her own housework.

was your dh in? get him to hoover it up. tell mil its his job Grin

if your dh wasnt in, dont let her come round unless he is at home in future

Oh gosh she already raises eye brows at me if he makes the coffee's god forbid I got him to hoover.

I'd turn round and tell her where the vacuum is. Making a mess of her house is just childish. Disciplining her like the child she is, is assuming control.

YWNBU to point out that your MIL and her partner are made for each other (ie they're both fuckwits).

when your dd is potty training take her round there whenever she's due to poo, and sneakily encourage wees on the sofa.

Bloody shop bought sandwiches ALL have mayo in them.
I can't eat them for the same reason as you OP.
DiL has allergies, I can remember them, miserable old bat did it on purpose.
Unless she has age related memory problems that is.
Ask her if that's the problem, she'll soon forget you said it if it's true. Wink

So what if she raises her eyebrows at you, just laugh and show them where it's kept.
As for the coffee, I always ask DiL if it's ok if I put the kettle on, she always says yeah sure.
Then I make the coffee.
No biggie.

Take your dd round there with glitter and glue to 'make a pretty picture for granny'. And some moonsand to play with on the carpet :o. Smile innocently when they talk about the mess and say 'you can hoover it up'

You don't get on, you're not very well, why on earth did you say "oh lovely" when they asked about coming for lunch?

They obviously have no respect for you or their son!

Ahh I can do glitter and glue..

diddl I have no idea actually, we've not seen them for a while and if I don't agree to a quick lunch I will end up coerced into a full sunday lunch round theirs.

Dh does this kind of 'meh' face and says I will hoover.

I feel that it's the principle, I had just hoovered and mopped everywhere and sat down.
