Zombie agrees about installing CCTV. Some of those tenants sound as though they could try to get even nastier. You and your DH need to do everything possible to record what happens.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/02/2014 00:49

Just crazy! People who have been notified numerous times still having the unmitigated gall to pitch a hissy at not being allowed to park where they have already been told they can't park. Sorry, just can't get my head round that!

MrsDC you have a jewel of a DH! Mine's the same kind and it's so wonderful to feel so cherished, isn't it?

perfectstorm · 18/02/2014 00:54

I seriously can't believe their nerve.

Bin Lady told your DH most officiously a week or two ago that he wouldn't be able to park there any more as the land had been sold, so she evidently knows full well what the situation is - but somehow, it being your land rather than some random faceless individual's means she thinks she can ignore that? And then call the LA and complain that the reduction in rent to compensate for no off street parking is just a treat for her, and shouldn't mean she can't park in someone else's driveway/garden at her own whim? And then other nutters, with identical rent reduction and understanding of the situation, actually come and scream at you because you have made their unauthorised (ab)use of your property impossible, via the bollards? "How dare you prevent us from trespassing on your property at your own convenience!" They seriously think they can pocket the discount and then just keep using your property without consent and your blocking that option makes YOU the bad guy? My jaw is on the floor, what horrible people.

I agree that complaining about the worst offenders to the LA is wise, so they can't get their tenancies renewed. And sadly I also think CCTV might be an idea to deter any further vandalism/harassment.

Mrsdavidcaruso · 18/02/2014 01:01

I think my phone has swallowed MrsDCs update ref the couple shouting about owning the island? did Bin Lady come back? can someone copy and paste it for me?

I feel like I am missing a vital piece Sad

PoorOldCat · 18/02/2014 07:58

Good lord, these people give renters a bad name Sad

Please no one take from this that everyone who rents a flat is an arsehole. It's not the case.

Glad your boy slept through it Mrs DC.

nauticant · 18/02/2014 08:01

When your DH contacts the LA, he should mention that you are being harrassed by the tenants, that you are not well, and although you haven't called the police yet, you will be forced to if the harrassment continues.

By the way, you can identify the bin women specifically because you know which flat she lives in.

nennypops · 18/02/2014 08:09

I don't really get what people think the LA is likely to do about this? The letting is private and therefore nothing to do with them, and the harassment is a police issue and also nothing to do with the council.

Groovee · 18/02/2014 08:09

Bin Lady turned up at 6pm and ranted about people thinking they owned the island.

Couple were away from Thursday and were furious to discover that despite notice they couldn't park where they liked with a reduced rent Wink

Kerosene · 18/02/2014 08:10

Nenny - IIRC, letting agent not local authority

Morgause · 18/02/2014 08:11

The Letting Agent (LA) has a responsibility for the behaviour of the tenants.

If they don't behave they can be evicted.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 18/02/2014 08:11

In this case LA = Letting Agent nanny

wonkylegs · 18/02/2014 08:17

LA is being used here to refer to Letting Agent not Local authority.

swampytiggaa · 18/02/2014 08:19

I think I would inform the LA of the abuse you would have and tell them that if it happens again the police will be called. And if they could put that in writing to the Tennant's and thru their doors today that would be helpful.

Good luck x

Lora1982 · 18/02/2014 08:50

Good morning to you on what is the first full tenant car free day :-D

WeAreDetective · 18/02/2014 08:50

The irony is that none of this would have happened if they hadn't parked so badly in the first place, causing op's solicitor to investigate...

trixymalixy · 18/02/2014 08:59

Just as well that you put those bollards up. It sounds like most of the tenants would have continued to try and park there despite the letters telling them they no longer had a right to and the subsequent rent reduction!!

Clutterbugsmum · 18/02/2014 09:33

I do think an E mail to the LA, explaining about their tennants behaviour since Friday, and any further behaviour like this you will be reporting them to the police for harassment.

JerseySpud · 18/02/2014 09:55

Just told DH about the whole parking saga and he is godsmacked that people behave like this!!

fryingpantoface · 18/02/2014 11:35

They should have moved their cars before they went away. Dicks.

OddFodd · 18/02/2014 12:38

I think they did move their cars frypan - they were just cross they couldn't put them back again. They don't have a leg to stand on; they're just being wankers

SauvignonBlanche · 18/02/2014 12:40

All cars were gone by this point so poor Mr&Mrsdavidcaruso probably thought it was all over and things were safe.

Mrsdavidcaruso · 18/02/2014 13:36

Oh for fuck sake

Letting agent was contacted by one of the tenants who wants to start a legal challenge to get their parking rights back and did the LA have the name and contact details of my Solicitor.

The LA wrote back and no. Told them that he has seen the documentation and our buying the land was totally above board and that as agents for the LL they have been in contact with him all the way and the LL by reducing the rent has admitted that he was in the wrong.

I wish these people would just go away now it was fun for a bit but they are getting nasty now

OP posts:
polarpercy · 18/02/2014 13:38

But do the tenants not get that they never had parking rights? It wasn't LL's land to rent. Sorry they're being so obnoxious.

Groovee · 18/02/2014 13:38

I wish they would go away too. They really are very entitled tennants. It should be the landlord they launch a legal challenge against for lying to them.
