to wonder how much childcare costs?

DH and i have been married for a couple of years and are starting to think about kids.

I've made a name for myself in my career and want to carry on but would also try to be flexible. We could probably afford for one of us to be a SAHP but my career would be very hard to get back into and DHs job has some lucrative perks that would be helpful in facilitating this so,although willing to, wouldn't make sense for him to give up plus i would be jealous in a have cake and eat it way

As such we would probably both work, though whether PT or not is unknown. I'm an uber planner and was wondering how this would affect us financially but cant find any info on childcare costs. Seems like a dark art!

Can anyone shed some light on options and costs? We're Thames Valley if that helps (lots of water here but we live on a hill, or island as the case may be).

My cm will cost £5.50 in se. I'll be going back 3 days a week so it's £165 a week. I have to provide food and nappies.

Nursery costs me just under £60 per day 8-6pm.

If you ring a couple of local nurseries they will tell you.

£50 per day in south west for nursery. Includes meals. Can pay with childcare vouchers.

I charge £45 per day.

All the options are different

Nanny is the most costly, then a nursery

I would make some enquiries locally

Includes everything except nappies.

Look at your mortgage, times it by two. Then add another £100 per month (emergency childcare, spare clothes, stolen clothes)

Don't assume the 15 hours when they are 3, is all year round or that you can use it flexibly.

Don't assume when they are at school it gets much cheaper, pre & after school, holiday clubs - see above comment on extra £100 per month.

It's a breathtaking amount you'll spend. No one actually tells you, it's just a huge fucking shock.

Ring around local nurseries and find out their prices. Also find out about childcare vouchers. If you're in the London area there will be probably waiting lists, I live in London and applied a year before.

Mines about £40 a day which includes all food but we supply own nappies and wipes. I'm lucky in that nursery is linked to my work.

It varies wildly across the country and by prouder, but in rural W Yorks (think Last of the Summer Wine) I pay
£39 / day - nursery (7.45 am to 6pm)
£4/ morning - breakfast club and escort to school (7.45 am to 8.45 am)
£12/ day - after school club (3.15 pm - 6 pm)
£20/ day holiday club

I understand that this is the cheaper end of the spectrum.

DD's nursery was £21 per session (am or pm) or £36 for a full day for under 2s. Though that was one of the cheaper ones in the area.

Childminders are cheaper than nursery sand usually more flexible

They provided meals and snacks in that price, but I provided milk and nappies. There was an option to include milk and nappies, I think they would invoice you per unit used.

Thames Valley near M4 £50 per day.

Oh, and childminders are around £3.50-£4 per hour here so not much cheaper than the nursery I chose.

Mine is 35 a day nursery or 100 for full week of before and after school club and holiday club. Remember out of that though you dont have to spend any money on food or outings as all included so out of work hours are cheap.

Our nanny does a 35 hour week and we pay £22k gross, and she gets a travel card. This works out cheaper than having two preschoolers in nursery (London, z2). We are fortunate that grandparents also provide 15 hours to make up the FT week.

Our nursery is £67/day for under 2s, milk and nappies included.

Totally depends where you live, even different areas in London vary massively. Nursery cost can vary from 40-100 a day in London, it may be cheaper outside of London. Childminder tends to be cheaper, and nanny obviously more expensive.
