To think I can go to work after my Mirena fitting?

Just that really. I'm getting a Mirena coil next week and I have meetings in the afternoon which I have to go to but after reading up on it I'm now thinking this may be a bit ambitious. Has anyone had one fitted and then fine just to go straight back to work?

I've had a copper coil fitted and carried on as usual.

Uncomfortable cramping but could definitely work through it.

Yeah I just popped a panty liner on and went shopping.

Just stick a couple of paracetamol in your bag, just in case.

Had one fitted in September. Had terrible tummy cramps despite being advised to take ibuprofen 1/2 hour before appointment time.

Even so, was on a par with bad period pains so not a show stopper for me.

I was absolutely fine after mine, the odd bit of cramping here and there but could carry on as normal.

Yes I was fine after I had both of mine fitted. Had some cramping but just make sure you have some pain killers on you and a sanitary towel handy as you may get some slight spotting too.

Hmm. I couldn't have done it. I was lying in bed for 24 hours in agony. I've heard the same from two friends. But I suppose everyone is different.

Yup I had an early morning appointment and went straight to work. Had a panty liner and painkillers. Was fine.

I had my previous one removed, and a new one put in at my GP surgery - it wasn't the most comfortable procedure I have ever had, but I don't think it was any worse than a smear. The discomfort was fleeting, had gone before I got my knickers back on, and I drove home afterwards with no cramps.

I've had both, serious cramps one time, nothing another time.

I felt terrible after mine but only for that evening (had it done at 5pmish). I was fine the next morning.

Depends on how you deal with pain I suppose? My first one was ok but the one I had put in 2 days ago hurt. Like fuck. I actually felt sick and shaky after I was in so much pain, don't know why that one was so much worse!

Assume nothing. I felt sick as a dog but the ache itself was no worse than period pain.

I felt really hot and faint afterwards, like I did sometimes during periods, and had fairly bad cramps. I had to sit in the waiting room for half an hour before I felt well enough to walk home so I don't think I could've gone straight to work. But I've never given birth so it may have taken a bit more force to get it in.

I think it's worse for people who haven't had vaginal births - mine went in no bother and no pain, I barely noticed it (clearly I have a cervix you could drive a bus through). My friend on the other hand who has had a cesarean found it quite painful and had cramping afterwards. Maybe just take some paracetamol just in case and make sure you have a get out clause in case you do feel a bit wobbly, could anyone else cover for you if need be?

Hmm mixed! Well all I can do is see how I am. My boss isn't going to be happy if I phone in sick afterwards but at the same time if I am in pain and feeling ill then that's okay to be off, isn't it? The thing is I don't want to tell him what I am doing other than saying I have a medical appointment. I generally deal ok with pain so fingers crossed I will be fine.

I had mine done late afternoon - so left work a bit early but didn't need to go back.

There was no way I could have gone straight back to work afterwards - some of us, it seems, respond badly to having our cervix manipulated. When I got home I lay on the floor feeling like death for an hour - then I threw up, after which it got better very quickly.

I couldn't have done so. I didn't respond ell to the cervix opening thing and was very wobbly for 20 minutes (apparently quite normal, didn't phase the GP at all). I was ok after an hour or so, but felt a bit wiped out. I lay on the sofa and milked it a little.

I passed out after having mine fitted - but that was before I had DS. Agree with previous posters that it seems to be a lot less traumatic if you've already had kids.

The first one I had fitted was pre kids and my BP dropped and wasn't particularly well after. The nurses were cross that I had driven myself there and was driving home. Second and third I have been fine but period cramps after, nothing couldn't cope with.

I would see how you are - if you aren't well then phone in sick

Had mine after kids (shutting the stable door etc...) and felt very very fragile. How important are the meetings and how on form do you have to be? If you can reorganise so you can have the coil fitting later in the day and then retire to bed with a hot water bottle and paracetamol then probably a good idea as you may not be any use at all.

I was fine after mine. Take 2 x ibuprofen half an hour before.

I went shopping in Sainsburys straight after getting mine then drove 10 miles to my mum's for my lunch. I took painkillers beforehand.

Yeah it was fine, I went to work straight after.
