hairband at 42?

haggiscatcher · 20/01/2014 18:53

I'm 42. I have longish hair. Sometimes I wear a black fabric hairband to keep it off my face. In public.
AIBU? I am worried I look like a complete fanny.
Am I too old for hair bands?

Anyone over 11yo is too old for a hair band. That includes Alice bands.

KareKare · 20/01/2014 18:55

Yup, 'fraid so!

CrockedPot · 20/01/2014 18:56

Sorry, but Yanbu. I also have long hair and wear one in the house sometimes, but always, always whip it off if someone comes to the door!

CrockedPot · 20/01/2014 18:57

I mean YABU, doh!

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 20/01/2014 18:57

Wear whatever you are comfortable in. I'm 42, I have longish hair, I refuse point blank to wear a pony tail, a hat or a skirt above my ankle. I don't wear make-up, jewellery or perfume (or very rarely anyway). I don't drink alcohol etc, etc. Some people probably think I'm odd - I don't give a toss!

ijustwantnicehair · 20/01/2014 18:58

Wear whatever you like most people won't notice let alone care!!

LittleBearPad · 20/01/2014 18:59

You probably are I'm afraid. Very sloaney and very eighties.

Iamavapernow · 20/01/2014 18:59

What rubbish.

I think hairbands can look gorgeous as part of a good hairstyle at any age. Unfortunately for you it's more of a 'look' rather than 'keeping hair off the face' style I use them for.

GlitzAndGiggles · 20/01/2014 18:59

A woman I work with in her mid 30s scrapes her hair into a side ponytail with lashings of gel it looks ridiculous so no yanbu imo

jacks365 · 20/01/2014 19:00

Yanbu. If someone wants to judge over something so petty then it's their problem. I'm older and I've even been known to plait my hair.

haggiscatcher · 20/01/2014 19:01

Yes I thought so. Though IMHO Alice bands are even worse. I'd NEVER wear one of them. Grin

Kaekae · 20/01/2014 19:02

i wouldn't, I think it looks dated I'm afraid.

Splodges · 20/01/2014 19:07

Er, no, you're not too old for a hairband. You are far too old to care what opinions other people have about your hair though. Wear what you like!

I wear big hippy ones like this www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-Dreadlocks-Hair-Head-Band-Rasta-Boho-Hippy-Strip-cool-Free-Shipping-unisex-/121213847835

People tell me it suits me.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 20/01/2014 19:12

I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks if you're comfortable.

I have very short hair which I push off my face with a fabric hairband when I'm taking my face off at night, I actually like the way it looks [and I'm 45].

Weelady77 · 20/01/2014 19:16

You wear it if you comfortable bugger everyone else

I personally wouldn't wear one but that's just my choice I certainly wouldn't stare if I seen you wearing one Smile

Vikki88 · 20/01/2014 19:17

Isn't anyone who's into double figures too old for a hairband?! Confused

msrisotto · 20/01/2014 19:18

Woah woah WOAH!! WTF is wrong with hairbands???

Lonecatwithkitten · 20/01/2014 19:18

I have fine elastic ones, about 5mm diameter that are hair coloured so no one can see them. Effect hair held of face, but no one can see it - win, win.

msrisotto · 20/01/2014 19:18

Like, one's that you use to put long hair up into pony tails?

mistermakersgloopyglue · 20/01/2014 19:27

Meh, I'm 31 and I wear stuff like this in my hair quite a lot.

I'm sure some people think it looks ridiculous but I struggle to care. I would prefer something like with a wedding outfit than a naff fascinator thing, but that's just personal preference.

haggiscatcher · 20/01/2014 19:28

Ooh I like the Rasta ones! Cheers!

Creamycoolerwithcream · 20/01/2014 19:30

I've got one with black sequins on one side, it's very Downton Abbeyesque. I'm 44 and love it.

PacificDogwood · 20/01/2014 19:33

YANBU.

What a question. Cannot wait to peruse the links Grin

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 20/01/2014 19:47

Wear whatever you like OP. I have quite a collection of hairbands, bobbles, clips and barettes.
