hairband at 42?

haggiscatcher · 20/01/2014 18:53

I'm 42. I have longish hair. Sometimes I wear a black fabric hairband to keep it off my face. In public.
AIBU? I am worried I look like a complete fanny.
Am I too old for hair bands?

Ericaequites · 20/01/2014 19:50

I'm 43, and still like hair bands. Except for two crew cuts, I've worn my hair thus since I was thirteen.

Catsmamma · 20/01/2014 19:52

gawd ladies, get with it....you should use your reading glasses as impromptu hairbands.

gordyslovesheep · 20/01/2014 19:55

you are never to old to wear or do anything if it pleases you

Alice bands scream Tory Wife at me though

PrimalLass · 20/01/2014 20:00

I always wear my sunglasses as a hairband - they have to sit close to my head so I am fussy about what pair/s I buy. Danni looks great (as always( with hers so maybe I should have a rethink.

pizzachickenhotforyou · 20/01/2014 20:01

Whatever it is you will always be too old too young too fat too thin too whatever. It will go out of fashion and come back in (I think they're in now, maybe that was jan) There are rules you must follow and they are constantly changing and being rewritten by people who I don't care about.
If you think it looks good and you want to wear it wear it.
Too old at your age tho really. You will regret thinking you were too old now in 2044

Latara · 20/01/2014 20:07

A plain black fabric band is ok for example in the gym I think?

KittensoftPuppydog · 20/01/2014 20:08

Stop it now.

Creamycoolerwithcream · 20/01/2014 20:13

I've got hair to my waist and an absolutely massive box of scrunchies, bobbles, clip, grips, bands, pegs, mini pegs. I have French plaits, pleats, pony tails, half up half down, WAG curls, smooth and sleek days. No way do I think 44 is to old for a head band.

WitchWay · 20/01/2014 20:16

I don't like hairbands much, but now I need reading glasses I am often to be found with them pushed up onto my head. Exactly like a hairband in fact. It looks fine & DH likes it - not bothered what anyone else thinks & I don't want a neck-cord yet as I'm not that ancient...

Starballbunny · 20/01/2014 20:24

Simple tortoise she'll Alice band when my hair is driving me nuts.

As I wear glasses, the sunglasses trick doesn't work

sophielouise · 20/01/2014 20:33

Do they really still sell scrunchies? Surely not!

Weelady77 · 20/01/2014 20:35

Yeah Sophie river island sell ones now!

scoobydooagain · 20/01/2014 20:38

I am nearly 40 and wear hairbands often - slim ones- and I get comments frequently about how much I suit them - and I don't think they are all taking the piss!

MostWicked · 20/01/2014 20:54

Good grief, you're a grown woman.
Wear what the hell you want to wear!
Hair bands are absolutely fine at any age.

Offler · 20/01/2014 20:58

I have a very slim, silver Alice band in my hair, it's invisible due to my curls but keeps the hair off my face! I'm 38.

Splodges · 20/01/2014 21:23

I wear scrunchies all the time, cos they hold my thick heavy hair well and they're nice and soft and don't pull. I have blue ones and black ones, and also mental garish ones for sillier hair dos. Honestly what is the point of being an adult if you have to be all sensible all the time? So boring!

cherrytree63 · 20/01/2014 22:14

I wear wide hair bands, mainly when my fringe needs cutting as I hate hair in my eyes, but also if I'm growing my hair and it's too short to tie back but long enough to irritate me at times,

I'm 50.

WotchOotErAPolis · 20/01/2014 22:24

cherrytree63 - like you, I'm 50 - maybe we should just start wearing purple too?

Or just give up trying to please some people?

KeatsiePie · 20/01/2014 22:26

No of course not! I like headbands, don't wear them very often, but think they look quite nice and classic. E.g., Charlotte in Sex and the City wore them very well, and while I can't remember what her age was supposed to be over the years/in the movies I'm sure she was not 25.

And for down the road, they seem to suit Jackie in The Good Wife ...

SeaSickSal · 20/01/2014 22:28

Are you posh? If so YANBU.

berrycake · 21/01/2014 07:14

I work in the food industry and we all have to wear hair bands, so most of us wear bandanas tied up like this (except it actually keeps the hair off our faces, it's not just for show)

starsandunicorns · 21/01/2014 07:32

I wear wide hairbands to cover my scabs on my head if people want to judge so be it im sure would pefer to look at a headband than scabs

bodygoingsouth · 21/01/2014 07:39

op you are 42, wear what the bloody hell you like. the ones who narrating don't as you are too old are daft. wear purple and spit and all that don't cha know.

GingerBlondecat · 21/01/2014 08:17

strongurgetofly · 21/01/2014 08:28

On the subject of scrunchies: I used to make my own in the 90s,i had a scrunchie for every occasion. I also wore whole outfits made of velvet and tie dye velour.
Dressing was way more exciting in those days!
