To think this hotel is a bit silly

Looking for somewhere cheap but different to stay in London

Came across this
www.roughluxe.co.uk

Takes the whole shabby chic thing a bit far, don't you think? Some of the rooms look like crime scenes. I particularly like the caption on one of the mirrors!

Off to check tripadvisor reviews

I quite like it!

I would need to be spotlessly clean for that to work though.

ShuttersAndMirrors · 16/01/2014 17:11

Has got some very good reviews (and some less so)
It's a bit spooky for me

How very Nathan Barley... a bit 'Emperors New Clothes' for me...

HyvaPaiva · 16/01/2014 17:15

Many of the rooms have 'day beds' rather than actual beds, so that definitely makes me say no.

mummymeister · 16/01/2014 17:15

I love it. have book marked but suspect it is out of my price range for a girly weekend away.

justjemima · 16/01/2014 17:31

It does indeed look rough

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 16/01/2014 17:35

Not my taste, all a bit too 'ironically tryhard cool' but looks a bit of a mess imo!

CuntWagon · 16/01/2014 17:38

I'm from the Wirral, so the notion of a rough hotel on Birkenhead Street made me Grin

Coumarin · 16/01/2014 17:42

It call a the gallery/pictures part 'imagery'. Pretentious tosspots.

Coumarin · 16/01/2014 17:44

And it looks like they couldn't be bothered to decorate. I can see what they were going for but I don't think it works. Too much rough, not enough luxe.

DelGirl · 16/01/2014 17:49

Its a no from me.

Gatekeeper · 16/01/2014 17:50

love the copper bath but the rest is wanky

Lovecat · 16/01/2014 17:52

:o Me too, CuntWagon

Those bathrooms - blee!

offblackeggshell · 16/01/2014 17:55

I love it! As Thurlow says though, it would need to be absolutely spotless, plus the very best bed linen in the world ever.

softlysoftly · 16/01/2014 17:55

Too try hard for me but I get that they are trying to set themselves apart despite being in a shit area.

I'm not sure why I should care if the picture I glanced at for the one night I stayed there was "by" someone. A little over-impressed by themselves I think.

CaptainHindsight · 16/01/2014 17:56

wtf is that telly?

Olivegirl · 16/01/2014 17:56

I prefer clean modern ... When we stay in london we always use travelodge / premier inn type places .. Looking for best deals.

But I guess if your looking for " different" then these are not for you?

Jackthebodiless · 16/01/2014 18:02

Hahaha! Looks like the 'before' pics in my house renovation scrapbook!

CatAmongThePigeons · 16/01/2014 18:08

I thought it'd be in a 'rough' part of London, that's positively posh. Grin It's a bit too shabby for my tastes sadly.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 16/01/2014 18:08

Very odd bed and breakfast.

It does take shabby chic to a whole new level!

ViviPru · 16/01/2014 18:20

wtf is that telly?

That was my first thought too!

Agreed, if the bed/bedlinen and bathroom fittings were of the highest standard, it would certainly be an interesting place to stay. Yeh it's a bit Barley-tricycle-Sugar Ape but sooner that than dusty pelmets and motheaten bedspreads IMO....

Teeb · 16/01/2014 18:31

Am I the only one who saw that "This is shit" picture and just thought "Yes, quite dear."

AgaPanthers · 16/01/2014 18:39

This is what we industry professionals call 'Poncey overpriced bollocks'

£239/night my arse.

It's in Kings Cross FFS, you don't need overpriced pretending-to-be hovels, you just have to walk around for a few minutes and you can find real ones.

All it needs is some 'artful' used needles on the floor, discarded condoms and some actors pretending to sell your drugs, and the wankery would be complete.

Inertia · 16/01/2014 18:40

Umm, they did a swear ! [Shock]

Crazy name, crazy guys , norty words on a painting

AgaPanthers · 16/01/2014 18:40

to sell you drugs, even.
