To ask how you would eat a banana?

I got a banana case for a stocking present at Christmas. It stops your banana getting bruised in your bag.
The thing that I find weird is that it comes with a little fork. Does anyone actually eat a banana with a fork?

A banana fork? No-I haven't heard of that. Confused

NumTumDeDum · 15/01/2014 21:04

I don't eat them at all. Yuck.

Iwannalaylikethisforever · 15/01/2014 21:06

That's a forking joke , sorry. Never heard of that

lookatmybutt · 15/01/2014 21:08

Did you know, it's easier to open a banana at the short end rather than the long stalk-y end?

I dunno what you do with a fork.

Lioninthesun · 15/01/2014 21:13

At school there were rumours that another local girls school had to have them chopped up in their canteen - those poor ladies were apparently completely ignorant to the true form of the lowly banana Grin.

superbagpuss · 15/01/2014 21:14

i read today on an american website that all English people use a knife and fork to eat a banana

there was no comments section for me to complain in

unless you all use a knife and firm and I've been doing it wrong all these years?

lookatmybutt · 15/01/2014 21:15

Also: bananas are radioactive and if you smoke about 10 million dried nana skins you can get high.

moppymarker · 15/01/2014 21:16

only monkeys open the banana from the pointy end

Patchouli · 15/01/2014 21:29

Is it to mash for babies?

I don't know, the great thing about bananas is that they naturally come in their own protective case (halfway across the world).

coffeeinbed · 15/01/2014 21:30

My PIL eats it with a knife and a form on a plate.
Pillock.

wobblyweebles · 15/01/2014 21:32

superbagpuss - that's fabulous!

SpookedMackerel · 15/01/2014 21:36

I eat mine with a fork (cut it into even slices first) and so does dd. Obviously it is better with an additional smothering of hot custard. I don't like them unsliced.

I also slice up Mars bars, though I would pick up the slices with my fingers. I wouldn't just bite into a whole one.

PurplePotato · 15/01/2014 21:37

The last time I stayed in an upmarket hotel (for work), room service offered me a banana as a snack - on a silver plate with a knife and fork...

lookatmybutt · 15/01/2014 21:37

Moppy: do you mean the stalk-y end when you say pointy end? I heard gorillas open them from the non-stalk-y end because it IS easier.

Maybe other apes/monkeys haven't realised??

EBearhug · 15/01/2014 21:39

I eat banana with a fork if I've mashed it up with said fork.

I eat it with a spoon if it's with custard.

But usually, I peel it and eat it without any cutlery.

Spottybra · 15/01/2014 21:39

I was taught to use a knife and fork to eat a banana and even how to cut the skin properly.

But everyone I know and even my family just eats it the same way as everyone else, you hold it upright, peel and eat.

exexpat · 15/01/2014 21:40

How do I eat a banana?

  1. peel
  2. bite off chunk
  3. chew
  4. swallow
  5. repeat steps 2-4 until banana is finished
  6. put peel in bin

Nope, can't see any need for a fork in there.

moppymarker · 15/01/2014 21:42

snap the stalk backwards you get a whole banana.

push the pointy end then you get a mushy end. ive only ever seen a monkey open it like this till one of my clients told me as some sort of revelation... arent we stupid we are all opening bananas the wrong way

i tried it... and decided he was a dickhead

Niklepic · 15/01/2014 21:44

Just peel and bite whilst avoiding awkward banana eating eye contact.

CrohnicallySick · 15/01/2014 21:56

How is it easier to open a banana from the short end? What exactly do you do to it- there's nothing to grab hold of and it's a bit tough to use your nails like a would a satsuma.

CrohnicallySick · 15/01/2014 21:57

I throw the peel away before eating and break off mouth size chunks with my fingers. Saves the awkward banana eating eye contact problem.

ineedsomeinspiration · 15/01/2014 22:00

I saw in good food magazine that it's easier to open the none stalk end but I have never had a problem with the stalk end.
It appears it may be 'proper' to eat a banana with a fork. I think I shall perhaps take a napkin to work too and see how I get on.

I wouldn't eat a banana at all - I don't like them

MrsOakenshield · 15/01/2014 22:03

I wouldn't. Bananas are the fruit of the devil.

MissPryde · 15/01/2014 22:06

If I'm having a banana along with breakfast (eggs and toast and such) I'll slice it onto the plate and eat it with a fork.

A banana by itself as a snack gets peeled and eaten, no utensils.

I had an ex-boyfriend who loved to go on about the 'revelation' about the proper way to peel a banana scientists observed in monkeys (the non-stalky end). Absolutely ridiculous. It's clearly not easier, it's hard to grip and the peel doesn't peel right and the end smushes. Why the feck would something a less evolved version of us did be the 'right way'? We beat them! We're smarter! The smarter way to defecate doesn't involve flinging our feces around, either.
