I met a mum at school on the first day of term two years ago and our children have been firm friends ever since.

I've been for coffee with her and our children have played at each others home. All fine.

As conversations always go, what does your husband do ? i said DH was an accountant and she replied 'oh same here' or words to that effect. that was that and never mentioned again.

Now, I just discovered in the local newspaper that her husband is a turf accountant Confused There was a article about him and a photo and everything so its not just a random name coincidence.

I'm like Confused its not the same thing at all ? is it ???

Grin

I like her

sooperdooper · 15/01/2014 10:48

Is it really that important, you've never discussed it since, I'm surprised you even remember

2014newme · 15/01/2014 10:49

Ha!

Thetallesttower · 15/01/2014 10:50

That's quite sweet. Perhaps she doesn't really know what he does.

ThisTimeItsPersonal · 15/01/2014 10:50

GrinGrin Definitely the same thing! Wink

fluffyraggies · 15/01/2014 10:51

I know what an accountant does, but what does a turf accountant do? Just take the money at front of house, or do the books?

(and does it matter?)

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 15/01/2014 10:51

Is it possible she misheard and thought you said turf accountant?

akachan · 15/01/2014 10:51

That's quite funny. Turf accountant is a much more interesting job than accountant accountant though so I'm surprised she'd want the two confused!

nauticant · 15/01/2014 10:52

It doesn't matter OP.

phlebas · 15/01/2014 10:52

That's funny! (I had to google turf accountant)

anothermakesthree · 15/01/2014 10:54

What is a turf accountant (excuse my ignorance!)?

akachan · 15/01/2014 10:55

a bookie

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2014 10:56

He's a bookie another. Sounds ok to me.

PavlovsCats · 15/01/2014 10:57

"A bookmaker licensed to take bets on horse races" - turf accountant

Fontofnowt · 15/01/2014 10:57

Ask her what she fancies in the 3.15 at Exeter.

MissMilbanke · 15/01/2014 10:58

A turf accountant is a bookie !!!!

makes a fortune running betting shops

Its only important in that she thinks they are the same and they are clearly not

I dont honestly care how he earns his money as long as its legally.

Maybe she misheard you and thought you said turf accountant. Ask her.

feathermucker · 15/01/2014 14:06

YABU in thinking that it matters in the slightest Wink

Boreoff456 · 15/01/2014 14:37

Yabu, she may not have been comfortable saying what he did. So just went with the accountant bit. Or maybe he hasn't actually told her what it is and she isn't bothered enough to get the details, or maybe he is also a registered accountant?

Boreoff456 · 15/01/2014 14:38

Shit sorry yanbu, it's not the same.

Only1scoop · 15/01/2014 14:41

It's just her sense of humour....love it Smile

Bettercallsaul1 · 15/01/2014 14:54

That is hilarious! Best thread today, definitely.

RufusTheReindeer · 15/01/2014 15:01

That's funny,

Both work with figures through and I will bet that her turf accountant husband is much better at adding up than my tax accountant husband!

PicaK · 15/01/2014 15:54

Fan sense of humour. Def a friend to keep!

SuzanneUK · 15/01/2014 15:59

It's not the same thing - because turf accountancy isn't boring.
