To think 8 year old DS might be right?

"What are you doing Dad?"
Looking at mumsnet. It's a website where mums and some dad's talk about useful things.
"You mean like how to make their kids behave better. That's crap and doesn't work".

No, we discuss way more interesting stuff than that.

Dilidali · 01/01/2014 23:05

Hahaha!
Mine gets in a right huff every time I read child psychology books: oh no, you're not getting any more silly ideas, are you!!!????

AwfulMaureen · 01/01/2014 23:05

I just think your 8 year old is massively disrespectful. That's not normal....for such a small child to talk to his parent in that way.

ssd · 01/01/2014 23:21

I think your ds is spot on.

ssd · 01/01/2014 23:21

maureen you dont have kids do you Grin

ReluctantBeing · 01/01/2014 23:23

We talk about useful stuff, more useful than crap about trying to make our kids behave.

QueenofLouisiana · 01/01/2014 23:24

I cover it when DS (also 8) turns up, in case he reads some of the juicier thread titles.
Mind you, I don't think he'd use the same expression about it -at least not a second time!

Salmotrutta · 01/01/2014 23:26

I doubt an 8 year old really said that.

NoComet · 01/01/2014 23:27
Grin My DDs like reading a certain parenting book (the one we don't mention on here) and falling about giggling.

Just as I used to read my Mum's copy of Dr. Spock.

topknob · 01/01/2014 23:27

Maureen you so need to meet my 8 yr old daughter :)

Writerwannabe83 · 01/01/2014 23:30

My sister has an 8 year old son - he would never use the word crap. I don't see why young children using swear words in front of their parents is anything to laugh or smile about....

Heartbrokenmum73 · 01/01/2014 23:30

My 5 year-old DS (who is really getting into his stride with his reading now - you know that stage where they have to read every single thing they see?) keeps coming over and plonking himself next to me and trying to read everything on here out loud.

Always when I'm reading something full of bad language or about sex!

SSD Yes...I have two thanks. They never use words like that in front of me....note, I stress "in front of" because I'd never assume they NEVER used words like that....but not to me. I'm glad we have some lines there...

AwfulMaureen · 01/01/2014 23:42

writerwanabe exactly. Although "crap" is hardly the same as "shit" or something it's still coarse for a small child. I'd definitely look twice and judge if I saw a kid of 8 say that to his Dad.

Firstimer13 · 01/01/2014 23:47

agree with Maureen.

TeeBee · 01/01/2014 23:58

Wow, some 8 year olds speak like that??!! Mine certainly does not! Not if doesn't want to spend the rest of the week grounded and in his room.

SinisterSal · 02/01/2014 00:01

Heh.

We walked around at that age saying things were 'Crab'. Nobody had a coronary from suppressed laughter

WaffilyVersatile · 02/01/2014 00:03

Got a nearly 8 yr old and I am not buying it either..

Bodypopper · 02/01/2014 00:07

If any of mine had said crap at 8 I would have given them a sound telling off.

Mind youngest is 14 now, stubbed her toe and shouted shit and shine! Fair enough.

TaraLott · 02/01/2014 00:08

Yarp, another who agrees with Maureen.

VworpVworp · 02/01/2014 00:08

My 8yo would never be allowed to use the word 'crap' Hmm Not sure she actually even knows it...

Ullapull · 02/01/2014 00:12

I feel old - I didn't say the word crap at that age! I'm younger than 30 BTW so not actually ancient Wink

thankfeckitschrismas · 02/01/2014 00:13

I agree with Maureen too!

My dd heard me laughing about the partner thread today.
Dh said ...What's funny?
DD said.... It's only mumsnet, she's always on there laughing!

And she is right.....though I try to stay away from the entitled threads...makes me a bit stabby...

But yes I do like a good chuckle and the threads I read certainly provide it

BlingBang · 02/01/2014 00:13

Is crap really that bad, I have a lot of crap lying about at the moment.
