to not like unsalted butter?

Brought it by accident and it is yuk. Like eating lard.
I rarely add salt to anything and often complain of stuff being too salty but the butter just doesn't taste nice. Perhaps this is the new way to get slim.

It's ok for some baking, but not for toast! Grin Shame everywhere is shut today, or I'd suggest you bought some more and did some baking!

Slainte · 01/01/2014 09:51

It's horrible, I only use it for baking.

formerbabe · 01/01/2014 09:52

It is horrid. I use salted for everything including baking...a tiny amount of salt improves the taste of sweet things as well.

Moln · 01/01/2014 09:53

YANBU

It's not nice at all, strictly used only as an ingredient!

Notfastmainlyfurious · 01/01/2014 09:54

A few months ago I would have agreed but after buying the salted again at Christmas as a treat I found I couldn't eat it. Switched to unsalted for the baby as it was easier and now I'm stuck with it.

Bonsoir · 01/01/2014 09:55

I love both unsalted and salted butter. Salted butter (the type with big salt crystals in it) is delicious with radishes for an apéritif.

ineedsomeinspiration · 01/01/2014 09:55

I see I'm not alone then. New years bagels were not nice this morning. Could do a bit of baking with ds. He will like that.

you need to get unsalted sour cream butter (lurpak for example), they taste ok unsalted. the sweet cream based ones (british butter usually) taste vile unsalted.

Renniehorta · 01/01/2014 09:58

I adore unsalted butter. One of the most delicious breakfasts is toasted baguette with homemade conserve, unsalted butter and lashings of coffee. Mmmh!

NoComet · 01/01/2014 09:58

The only use for unsalted butter is to make brandy butter to have with mince pies.

tulippa · 01/01/2014 09:58

YANBU. It tastes of nothing when put on toast - just makes a layer of grease.

UterusUterusGhali · 01/01/2014 10:03

It's horrible. Lots of naice restaurants have it at the table. I'd add my own sprinkle of maldon if I were you.

UterusUterusGhali · 01/01/2014 10:08

Oh man I want some crusty bread with a really good butter and salt now.

Or some bocaccini and baby plum tomatoes sprinkled with maldon and basil leaves.

NorbertDentressangle · 01/01/2014 10:09

Totally agree that unsalted butter is horrible.

When I've eaten it on toast at the IL's I've found that it just coats my mouth with a tasteless film of grease. Like someone said, it's like eating lard (or what I imagine eating lard is like as I've never just eaten it like that!)

cardibach · 01/01/2014 10:11

Unsalted butter is horrible on toast, I grant you. However it is delicious on any sort of fresh bread. GO buy some sort of poncy artisanal bread OP, it'll be great.

Dancergirl · 01/01/2014 10:15

YABU

I only buy unsalted and use very little salt in cooking. Much healthier. I find a lot of restaurant food too salty.

ShadowFall · 01/01/2014 10:19

I switched to unsalted butter when we started weaning DS1 and now I find the normal butter tastes too salty.

fryingpantoface · 01/01/2014 10:20

I love salted butter, we only get lurpack.

salted butter on home made bread, yummy! Will bake bread today i think

FunkyBoldRibena · 01/01/2014 10:21

We make butter in my class and I always add a touch of salt once it is nearly done.

Quangle · 01/01/2014 10:22

Hate it when posh restaurants give you nice bread and unsalted butter. Bleugh. Yanbu

bragmatic · 01/01/2014 10:23

Salt and fat. What's not to like? Mmmmmm.

HappyGirlNow · 01/01/2014 10:34

Hate it - it's completely pointless and vile..

Wevet · 01/01/2014 10:42

I grew up on Kerrygold, and that remains The One True Butter for me. I keep unsalted for baking only, and even then....

Methe · 01/01/2014 10:45

The absolute best thing in the world is the butter they have in France with sea salt crystals in it. They had some on Lidl last week and we've eaten it all already.

Unsalted butter is disgusting. And pointless.

lljkk · 01/01/2014 11:57

Took me months, but I got DH used to unsalted.

If it tastes horrible, then I humbly submit that your palate is adapted to way too much salt than is good for you.
