to not like unsalted butter?

Brought it by accident and it is yuk. Like eating lard.
I rarely add salt to anything and often complain of stuff being too salty but the butter just doesn't taste nice. Perhaps this is the new way to get slim.

I love it. It's creamy.

Back2Basics · 01/01/2014 12:05

I like both, need proper salted butter for toast though.

We had regular religious battles when I lived with my parents - they would only ever buy Lurpak, which I thought then and still think is vile, tasteless slime. Unsalted butter is an abomination, I only ever buy the salted stuff and use it for baking sweet things as well.

I can't stand salted butter

Might as well poor salt all over my toast -blurgh!

liquidstate · 01/01/2014 12:34

I love it! way too much salt in the modern diet anyhow with processed foods.

It is delish on toast and croissants.

I think a modicum of salt is not a bad thing - and butter doesn't have to be horrendously over-salted to taste nice, imo. I am with the OP, and definitely prefer salted butter to unsalted butter. And I use a bit of salt in my cooking - I think it is OK as long as you use it in moderation.

I do think that professional chefs have not yet adjusted to the fact that most of us use a lot less salt than we ever used to - whenever I go to a restaurant, the food definitely tastes saltier than I am accustomed to, and sometimes it is way too salty. But then I watch programmes like MasterChef Australia, and one of the things that the contestants always get picked up on, is underseasoning their food. Which leads me to suspect that the judges (who are restauranteurs and food critics) have palates that are bombarded with salt all the time, so what most of us would see as very salty/well seasoned, they find bland.

YABU unsalted President is the way to go.

AnnabelleLee · 01/01/2014 12:53

Bought. no r.

louwn · 01/01/2014 12:57

YABU - its for baking only though.

maillotjaune · 01/01/2014 12:59

YABU unsalted President is lovely (but I like the salted butter with crystals in it on toast with jam).

hollyisalovelyname · 01/01/2014 13:06

I love Irish butter.
I hate unsalted butter
A little of what you fancy does you good.... though my dh puts potatoes under his butter Grin

FryOneFatManic · 01/01/2014 13:22

I only use unsalted butter when a recipe specifically calls for it. Otherwise basic salted butter is fine here.

WhereIsMyHat · 01/01/2014 13:55

It's horrible, I love salted butter though especially the posh sort with salt crystals in it.
