to think we're all going to be mudered?

I'm away for the Christmas period working for the family I Nanny for at the weekend. We are staying in a mansion/log cabin on the top of a mountain - very very secluded.

On the first night, I heard very light knocking in my room. Quite distinctive as knocking - like one of the kids wanted me. But the kids are on the opposite side of the house and there was no one around. This happened twice (early morning) but I was so tired I didn't think much of it.

The next morning it turned out that everyone in the House had heard the three light knocks at least once in the night.

I checked outside all the windows and there were recent animal prints (think Elk and Bear) and human foot prints circling the house. no one in our group had been outside at all and the prints didn't match anyone's shoes.

Second night, three light knocks again in the dead of night. Everyone heard them at different times.

Third night (last night) the knocks happened again and the four year old boy I look after starts talking about the "blood man" that only he can see being in the House Shock he keeps singing songs about the Blood Man.

AIBU in thinking that we're living some crazy horror film?

Phew!!

CheerfulYank · 31/12/2013 16:06

Lololol Harry that's brilliant.

Also, my name is Brick. :o

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/12/2013 16:09

I would have been paralysed with fear. Not surprised you didn't trot over to the window to check it out!

Only two more nights right?

Nombrechanger · 31/12/2013 16:16

Do you believe in the death-knock stories?

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/12/2013 16:21

What are the death knock stories?!

Dillydollydaydream · 31/12/2013 16:22

I believe in the death knocks. I'm a right wuss so don't think I could stay there another night.

lessonsintightropes · 31/12/2013 16:22

Erm not to come over all stalkerish OP but... I think you're safe. The house you are in was only built three years ago and according to this source it's pretty normal for a new-ish house to continue to settle for some time. Those tracks looked a lot like raccoon tracks to me too Grin

drbonnieblossman · 31/12/2013 16:24

I'm just open mouthed that the first reply you had was from some cocking idiot correcting you on a sodding typo!

Objection · 31/12/2013 16:30

I believe it was built in 2006 and bought 3 years ago. The house is stunning and it's a treat to be here. my imagination plus the knocking however is grim!

I'm loving this thread. I scare do easily but the responses have had me chuckling.

You will be fine. Honest. No one is going to want to waste time playing with you all over several nights. Children, even demon children just don't have the patience to drag it out. It is most likely pipes.

Has the blood man been mentioned again?

LadyFlumpalot · 31/12/2013 16:32

Tonight is the night - parents out, OP sitting with the kids. Kids all in bed when OP hears the front door creak open at 1am.

"Emoloyer? Is that you? Kettles on!" she calls out into the darkened house...

At this point, OP, do NOT go looking to see why noone has responded to your cheeey greeting...

LadyFlumpalot · 31/12/2013 16:35

The fresh snow is good - you'll be able to see if there are any fresh footprints tomorrow!

Could you go buy a cheapish video recorder and set it up on your windowsill tonight?

In all seriousness, I spent weeks terrified because just as the sun was setting each night I would hear very distinct knocks on our back door. We have a fully enclosed garden.

After leaving my phone on record on the window sill I discovered it was birds picking off insects on the white door frame!

Sparkletshirt · 31/12/2013 16:39

Are you a new nanny to the family Objection? And they've been visiting there 3 years but this is your first time? Those kids are winding you up, that's why you're at the other side of the house from you. They're bloody good at it too Xmas Grin

Sparkletshirt · 31/12/2013 16:40

why you're at the other side of the house from them even. Ooh the drama is just too much :)

desertmum · 31/12/2013 16:55

call the police anyway - they might be young and handsome and rich . . ..

AsBrightAsAJewel · 31/12/2013 16:57

Being cynical posting on MN certainly ups the traffic to see properties for sale; the purple monstrosity was in Rightmoves most viewed top 10.

diddl · 31/12/2013 16:59

Did anyone ask if the "knocking" is at the same tome?

If so maybe just heating or the house cooling?

Looks an amazing place, but a bit creepy imo.

LilithSternin · 31/12/2013 17:00

I have just sat and read this thread all in one go, sounds like scary stuff! I have been in actual tears at "I think it's fairly clear that the murderer is Louis Spence" and the man next door blowing his nose! Hope it turns out to be the family winding you up, OP.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/12/2013 17:13

Did your human footprint photos ever upload properly, OP? I can't see them.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 31/12/2013 17:17

Those prints are hooves, hooves I tell thee.

What's the opinion of the other adults youre with?

Spottybra · 31/12/2013 17:18

OP - I have it. I know what it is....

No one wants to murder you. Someone knows there are stolen jewels/a gold mine/a diamond mine/other easy black market profit hidden in or under the house and wants to scare you all away.

Um, or maybe not, too much 4yr old tv whilst 2yr old naps?

AsBrightAsAJewel · 31/12/2013 17:33

And they would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids (and their Nanny).

FourAndDone · 31/12/2013 17:39

Iamsparklyknickers · 31/12/2013 17:48

Are you brave enough to knock back? Two potential outcomes:

  1. Nothing - might calm you down a bit
  2. It all goes a bit 'Cabin in the Woods'

Have you had a good look outside your window to check for anything hanging that might get blown against your window or drip? Also might be a good idea to ask if anyone has ever been prone to sleep walking.

Sleep walkers are freaky as fuck in my experience.

SootikinAndSweep · 31/12/2013 17:59

Can someone put the link up for the secret bedsit? Can't find it.

OH is a horror buff, his advice is don't read any books that say you shouldn't read them, don't say Candyman three times into a mirror, don't tell anyone you'll be right back, and don't eat yellow snow.

I'd add that hiding in a wardrobe with louvre doors will be more scary than being actually murdered, so save yourself the terror and just offer yourself up immediately.
