I'm away for the Christmas period working for the family I Nanny for at the weekend. We are staying in a mansion/log cabin on the top of a mountain - very very secluded.

On the first night, I heard very light knocking in my room. Quite distinctive as knocking - like one of the kids wanted me. But the kids are on the opposite side of the house and there was no one around. This happened twice (early morning) but I was so tired I didn't think much of it.

The next morning it turned out that everyone in the House had heard the three light knocks at least once in the night.

I checked outside all the windows and there were recent animal prints (think Elk and Bear) and human foot prints circling the house. no one in our group had been outside at all and the prints didn't match anyone's shoes.

Second night, three light knocks again in the dead of night. Everyone heard them at different times.

Third night (last night) the knocks happened again and the four year old boy I look after starts talking about the "blood man" that only he can see being in the House Shock he keeps singing songs about the Blood Man.

AIBU in thinking that we're living some crazy horror film?

Loving the comment about if the op is still alive on 2nd jan nominate for classics!!!!! I was pondering this..my great aunt was a no nonsense, upstanding , hyacinth bucket in stature type..she once saw off an armed robber in her farmhouse in the early hours of the morning armed only with a shoe horn and then marched around the yard in dressing gown and wellies singing 'Onwards Christian soldiers' searching for any additional cowering reprobates. May I suggest, op, that you put your hair up in rollers, upholster your bosom and arm yourself with a rolling pin....... a rousing war song is optional but certainly adds the finishing touch!!

trashcanjunkie · 31/12/2013 14:27

omg op where are you!! working probably Grin

cardibach · 31/12/2013 14:28

Howstricks Grin she sounds like an amazing woman! Reminds me of my great-grandmother, who lived in a remote Cumbrian cottage, kept a shotgun under her bed and spent most of her time persecuting the timid man who lived down the lane, who she was convinced was a dangerous robber ...

Danann · 31/12/2013 14:46

Howstricks I have a beautiful image of a young robber being confronted by a shoe horn up his nose and 'what are you doing in my house?' in a scary teacher voice Grin

TeddyBare · 31/12/2013 14:55

Howstricks your great aunt sounds amazing.

ExcuseTypos · 31/12/2013 14:57

I'm just marking my place to find out of she's still alive

Rufustherednosedreindeer · 31/12/2013 15:01

Yep same here

Hope you are alive OP

(And if not I'm sorry for being so flippant)

TheOneWithTheHair · 31/12/2013 15:04

Marking my place to see if she comes back.

lessonsintightropes · 31/12/2013 15:06

Are you ok, OP? OP? OP???

ScarletLady02 · 31/12/2013 15:07

I hope there isn't any foulness afoot in Crested Butte...

Reminds me of when we moved into our current home. We went to open the loft and saw it had been nailed shut from the inside. Bit odd we though...Then every night we would hear these weird moaning sounds that sounded like they were coming from above our bedroom. Obviously we've seen [REC] and were suitably terrified...I was of course imagining freaky loft zombies...

...until we found out the noise was the old man next door blowing his nose Grin

Still don't know why the loft is closed like that though.

ExcuseTypos · 31/12/2013 15:10

There's obviously someone up there Scarlett.

Why don't you go and look?Grin

ScarletLady02 · 31/12/2013 15:11

I have thought about it....I usually get lumped with those sorts of jobs as I'm taller than DH. Unfair really. I do have two kittens though, I could throw them up there, their claws are EVIL!

GlaikitInAPearTree · 31/12/2013 15:21

Sorry, I've only read the first few pages, but I recognise the cabin.

I'm not shitting you but I'm sure it was the base for some reality murder mystery thing I watched on tv years ago.

Grennie · 31/12/2013 15:21

You do know it is New Year's Eve when everything will happen?

Grennie · 31/12/2013 15:23

I suggest you tell ghost stories to each other tonight. And a Ouji board might be useful as well.

Holy shit! Stephen King has arrived. How did you come up with your nickname HarryStottle Stephen?

garlicbaubles · 31/12/2013 15:47

I very tastelessly have to watch this thread. Objection, I buy PP's rational explanations for the apparent footprints & hand print. There's no such thing as ghosts. But I would call the local police anyway, see if they can come up and have a look.

What a gorgeous house! Sorry your enjoyment's being a bit spoiled.

garlicbaubles · 31/12/2013 15:48

Grin Brilliant, Harry!

Objection · 31/12/2013 15:53

I'm here! Sorry, busy busy getting breakfast sorted and the kids off to ski school.

I'll write an update now.

Knocking happened again last night.
Exactly the same as usual - three clear knocks like little hands knocking on wood. It happened twice and it is a LOT more difficult to be cool and logical when it's pitch black and your on your own!

The knocks came from the direction of the windows and I couldn't get the link between wood settling or pipes like people suggested - it sounded exactly like a child knocking from outside.

you will all be disappointed to hear that o didn't gird my loins and look out through the curtain but instead slept with the bedside lamp on.

For those asking about the weather, the fog rolled in last night and at 7 am it started to snow. about an inch or so has come down already and it's getting faster.

Me? I've conveniently come down ill, blocked nise, fatigue and aches.
