Wow, that's...fun.

tethersend · 29/12/2013 17:55

Can't we play monopoly instead?

Heartbrokenmum73 · 29/12/2013 17:57

My real Dad is Bruce Forsyth.

Are you seriously expecting people to spill family secrets on here???

There's anonymity and then there's giving your life away online!

My dad had told me he was a sniper and that's the reason he had a hole in his leg. I believed him for years. Turned out he had a huge motorbike accident and the handle bar went through his leg.

I prefer the first reason. Lol

RandomMess · 29/12/2013 18:00

I think there is a thread in classics where people did share their family skeletons!

TheGinLushMinion · 29/12/2013 18:00
Hmm
NearTheWindmill · 29/12/2013 18:01

Ooh I don't know DS once stole a pair of tights from Boots when he was 1ish. I took them back; might not have if they hadn't been XL. And once I told my MIL that DS had been to the clinic and had gained 6oz - didn't take him - it was foul and filthy but it shut her up and next time she saw him she could see how he'd grown - because I went to the clinic and took their advice.

MerryChristmasMollyHooper · 29/12/2013 18:02

Erm...

When I was 11 I accidentally stone a creme egg. I went straight back and paid for it once I had realised.

MerryChristmasMollyHooper · 29/12/2013 18:02

Stole! Not stone.

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 29/12/2013 18:04

I used to nick boiled eggs from The Asda salad bar, when they had one

Faverolles · 29/12/2013 18:05

There have been several family secrets threads in chat over the years.
Not sure why this one should be treated any differently.
IIRC, they were all very interesting, but often sad, with secret births and families.
I can't think of any secrets at the moment, but will return if I do.

HarrietSchulenberg · 29/12/2013 18:07

A closeish relative spent 8 weeks in jail but everyone said he'd gone to Australia. Even those of us who knew had to carry on the "overseas" story to each other!

MerryChristmasMollyHooper · 29/12/2013 18:08

What is it about eggs that make people steal them?

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 29/12/2013 18:12

Merry No idea. Least yours was chocolate Grin

MerryChristmasMollyHooper · 29/12/2013 18:16

I've never actually liked creme eggs that much tbh.

They always seem like a really good idea until you're half way through and feel sick.

AlyssB · 29/12/2013 18:16

Last Christmas my family spent lunch discussing a forrin uncle of my mums who got hammered and tried to burn the house down with his family inside. Lovely lunch conversation. DSis, DP and I were all a bit Shock. This happened years ago before I was born but was just dropped into the conversation all casual-like. Very odd.

peachactiviaminge · 29/12/2013 18:17

So SP is why we can't have nice things then.

Sadoldbag · 29/12/2013 18:19

Faverolles

Yes I think that too very interesting it amazing how things are kept so hush hush and the lengths people go to keep up the lies Confused

I always wonder what else is floating about we don't know about

My DGF was named as OM - the shame for catholic family back then...

jellycake · 29/12/2013 18:24

I am Batman...

MrsBennetsEldest · 29/12/2013 18:29

My DF was a member of the British Olympic Luge team for many years, he was never actually at any of the Olympic Games as my DM hadn't washed his Lycra suit. Given my DF was about 18 stone and 5' 8" I should have cottoned on sooner.
He also shot 42 terrorists with one bullet during his National Service in Malaya , they were in single file. Gullible, me? Nah :)

CairoPrapstar · 29/12/2013 18:29

Well Sadoldbag, the IRA burnt down our family home in the 1920's, they were very polite and asked everyone to leave first so I doubt it had anything to do with your grandad Grin

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 29/12/2013 18:30

Faverolles, I think it's because the OP had "A bit of fun" and "grand dad was in the IRA and killed a man" closely juxtaposed. But taking that as unfortunate phrasing rather than deliberate insensitivity...

I think my family's deep dark secrets are mostly out in the open. My grandmother did like to pretend that her second and third marriages had never happened but as her sons had mostly been adults at the time she was never going to get far with that one.

YouTheCat · 29/12/2013 18:32

I'm Brian and so's my wife.
