To mourn my beautiful cardigan?

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 12:42

I know, I know, it's not the worst thing that ever happened but I was shopping this morning and it was v warm in the shop so I took off my beautiful cosy cream cashmere cardigan and looped it over my bag. When I got to the till with my hands full of toys it had fallen off. I tried to find it but it was gone and no-one has handed it in. Sob! I'm very sad, I loved it and I had saved up to buy it. Bloody toys.

Oh I shall join you in your mourning.

I love a gorgeous cardi. And cashmere - oh double the blow.
It tops my mourning for my grey cardi which I managed to bleach the arms ( never clean the bathroom and loos wearing gorgeous cardis).

Leave your name at the shop in case it gets found and handed in by a beautiful cardi soul.

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 12:49

Thank you Pancake, I left my name but I doubt it will ever appear again, except on someone else .

Bleach on a cardie is very cruel as well, could it be salvaged in any way? If just on ends of sleeves you could get wristwarmers to hide it?

Did the shop sell clothing? It might have been picked up by a member of staff who thought it was from their range and chucked it somewhere ready to be put back. Call back later and check again.

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 12:58

Alas no Holly, it was a toy store and would have been so obvious among all the plastic tat. To add insult to injury I was only there because my MIL asked me to get my kids' presents as she "didn't have time". Grrrrrr.

Pancake, these are so so expensive but might they rescue the grey cardie? Wristwarmer Porn

YANBU
I recently lost my handmade, imported from the States cowl scarf with the words of Persuasion printed on it. I am sad beyond belief.

So I totally feel your pain.
RIP cream cardi Sad

Pancakeflipper · 13/12/2013 13:10

Take comfort that if your cardi ever adorns the back of another - your cardi will never love them like they loved you. It will never fit like it fitted you.

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 13:16

Oh, very sad for you Thursday, RIP cowl scarf as well....

Pancake, whoever has my cardie will never look as good or be as cosy because they will always know they should have handed it in and that will give them a chill (or it should!)

YANBU. I put my favourite cashmere dress on a hot wash with a brand new never-washed red coat. Moment of madness I tells ya.

FandangoLaLaLaLaLaLaLaaaa · 13/12/2013 13:20

Oh I live a beautiful cardigan. I feel your pain. Today I mourn the passing of my beloved elephant top, black silk covered in teeny multicoloured elephants Sad I got it out of the wardrobe and the whole of the back was torn. Completely unsalvageable. I'm considering trawling eBay for a replacement.

AimeeDubucqdeRivery · 13/12/2013 13:35

eBay always has lovely second hand and new cashmere stuff. I bought a new100% cashmere cardigan for £25 a couple of months ago. It's fab. Could you treat yourself to something like that to console yourself a bit?

kawaii · 13/12/2013 13:52

Oh god was it Brora. I am saving up for a cardigan from there as we speak. Will be able to afford it in April!

Poor you Sad

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 14:26

It wasn't Brora, I might have asked for the shop to be shut and everyone be frisked if it was! It was from The White Company and was so super-soft and as it was a swing cardie it wrapped over at the front. As I am fat curvy, it was lovely to have something with lots of extra material.

Such sad stories here of much-loved things lost or destroyed.....

I felt the same about the lovely Monsoon jumper dress I had that the puppy stole from the laundry basket and ripped a giant hole in. I'm going out tonight and it would have been perfect to wear that!

Puppy has a habit of hitting us where it hurts, my books and clothes, dh's electronics and dc toys are all on the chewing list. She is lovely though and will hopefully stop shredding things before I have to do the school run naked and wobbly Shock

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 13/12/2013 14:47

SofaKing Xmas Grin

I am currently mourning a much loved and oft worn sweatshirt that I bought from Joules a couple of years ago. Love it to bits. Literally. It's got holes worn in the armpits where material has rubbed and bobbled and split.

Oh and earlier this year I was mourning a beautiful looseknit wool jumper that I treated myself to last Christmas. Couldn't find it for ages. Asked dh if he'd seen it. He said 'What that tatty old thing? It was on the floor, I thought you'd chucked it out so I put it in the charity collection.'

Bloody idiot.

ProfondoRosso · 13/12/2013 14:51

Oh bless you. I hate it when this happens.

Years ago, I had a Jean-Paul Gaultier for La Redoute trenchcoat that I bought in the sale. It was gorgeous. I left it on my seat at a bar when I went to buy a drink and it was gone when I came back. Sad I actually burst into tears. Blush

Hermione123 · 13/12/2013 14:55

Brora has 15% off today, sales after Christmas, at least a good time to get a replacement? I sympathise, I once had a really expensive nightie nicked after I left it in a hotel...

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 18:21

There is a sliver of hope!!!!!! I had a missed call from the shop (I think it was them) and no-one answering since despite 50 attempts to ring them back.... I am going to go there first thing in the morning and see if they have it. Oh my God, the hope may keep me awake!

Sofa our puppy ate the cord of 3 breast pumps, each time I found it it was when I needed to express and I thought I would kill her! She also got 2 phone chargers and a pair of much-loved shoes....

Ilovemydog that's grounds for divorce! Profondo, I would have cried if someone had done that, so horrible. Hermione, thanks for the Brora tip, I think they are still going to be too pricey for me - do they ever do 50% off??

OP posts:
Hermione123 · 13/12/2013 18:28

Fingers crossed for you! Brora have a reasonable sale although the non cashmere stuff goes down more. you can get a deal on eBay sometimes and they have a clearance section which has bargains.

MintyChops · 13/12/2013 18:57

Thanks Hermione, they do have such beautiful stuff, I will keep tabs on the clearance stuff. What is their sizing like?

Hermione123 · 13/12/2013 19:43

Pretty normal I'd say, you might get a better range of opinions in style and beauty. I'm slightly plump so it may be they are on the generous side :)

Coumarin · 13/12/2013 23:02

I do hope they've found it. It sounds gorgeous.

My own tale of cardigan woe is about my lovely bright yellow one. It had a tiny white umbrella print all over it. It wouldn't have passed inspection from the Style and Beauty boards but it cheered me up every time I wore it. Unfortunately I somehow managed to bleach it in the wash. Pale patches all over the back of it. :( It stills hangs in my wardrobe, I give it a little stroke occasionally.

MintyChops · 14/12/2013 09:55

I've got it back! I'm so happy! Went in this morning and they had it for me, hurrah! Thank you all for your sympathy, was very sad about it but never going to take it off again now...

Coumarin could you wear a sleeveless top over your cardigan, hiding the bleach but still getting to wear the cardie?

OP posts:
TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/12/2013 10:04

Fantastic news! So glad it's been found. I still mourn a periwinkle blue silk camisole that my mum 'helpfully' put in the washing machine about fifteen years ago. It's always the much-loved and irreplaceable items that get lost or trashed.

Oh this is the most romantic thread ever. I think I might do a screenplay based on this.
