I have seen one this week that says 'Toy Unloading Zone'. That was it. No mention of Santa or anything. Not really the spirit is it?

AIBU to think that's a bit Hmm, or am I turning into my Mum?

I would link but I can't actually find one for sale. Confused

Mine says

Santa stop here.....or else!

Only jokingGrin

You are right, not in the spirit of it at all

WillieWagglingRoundTheXmasTree · 11/12/2013 13:31

it was definitely a father christmas one, rather than, say, the delivery bay for toysrus? Wink

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 13:33

No it was in a garden Willie it lit up too. Grin

The "Santa stop here" ones are in all the gardens on the way home from school. I was a wee bit Hmm with the children's names being written on them. It is a busy area with a lot of people passing and I'm not sure I would want passers by to know the children's names but perhaps that's just me.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 13:44

How about a Man United one? Confused

YY I find having the names on a bit odd. And anyway Santa should know.

Or a twee one? Grin

Aw, I like that last one!

CaptainHindsight · 11/12/2013 14:57

My policeman uncle advises they are a great big "expensive stuff stored here" signs and make you prime burglary targets.

For that reason alone I wouldn't have one.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 14:59

They are quite pointless IMO and a bit tacky.

Writerwannabe83 · 11/12/2013 15:16

I find them a bit odd - I always thought Santa knew where all the children lived so wouldn't need signs to alert him to which houses he should visit??

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 15:20

YY, Writer. or know where to 'unload the toys'. Confused

The DDs used to put one in the middle of our garden and DH would light it so he could put bite marks in the carrots so Rudolph found his snack.

Katienana · 11/12/2013 15:39

I think burglars are more likely to target a home with poor security, no outside light, not overlooked by neighbours etc than one that just happens to have the Santa sign.
I agree that sign is awfully tacky though.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 16:36

I thought all houses were at risk of being burgled at this time of year, but the sign advertises you have DC so therefore Christmas presents?

Scaredycat3000 · 11/12/2013 16:53

I nearly bought a Santa stop here sign today, first year in a house Grin not a flat. But it wasn't working, probably only needed batteries, last one and I just couldn't bring myself to buy something so tacky that the children hadn't even asked for. It would have cost £3, or £2, can't remember. I think the burglary advise is probably just a bit out of date, no longer relevant, tat is just so cheap these days!

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 19:02

I think a house with teenagers may be more attractive to burgle. There are likely to be gadgets in the house.

OP posts:
SatinSandals · 11/12/2013 19:09

I know a child who was very upset by it. He had learned to read and he thought Santa was banned from his house! If you take it literally it would mean 'Santa. Stop here (and don't come any further)!

CaptainHindsight · 11/12/2013 19:10

I grew up in a deprived area Sparkling and it was quite well known that "seasonal thieves" would steal presents to sell in pubs in the local area to hard up parents, but it I see what you mean about teenagers having the high ticket goods.

It was a warning he used to give my extended family while we were young and it's stuck with me ever since. not so many gadgets back in the day

Annunziata · 11/12/2013 19:14

We have a Celtic one

Mine all loved putting their sign out when they were wee.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 19:17

That sounds a bit posh Ann. Grin
