Ok. Going to start a huge bun fight but here we go. Why the heck did Jack Monroe quite a good job then moan about being poor!! Read an article she wrote where she said she had given her ex partner their son on Christmas day because she was to poor to give him a good crimbo!! I could never do that!! Please enlighten me.

Feel your pain re nursery hours, I have a 1 hour commute each way bug a standard 9-5. we opted for a childminder in the end as she was able to be more flexible. God knows how couples or single parents with irregular hours and no family support manage it to be honest.

Stop bashing IHateMincePies. She came back after all the facts were laid out and said she understood now. What is wrong with you people?

Jack, I first read your blog a long time ago when you were in the process of selling all your stuff to meet he shortfall in benefits. I thought at the time how heartbreaking but clearly someone this talented and bright would be snapped up by a canny employer soon. If you can be left out of work for so long then it can happen to any of us. Sobering thought :(
