to think that noone could care less about the self important 'Guest Blogs'?

They sit there for days on end at the top of the lsit with about five comments (probably made b the name changing author in any case.)
I don't get it. Why do we need 'blogs' when the place is jam packed full of people expressing interesting opinions in any case?

I never read them either, or the MN blogging website.
There's one or two funny or skilled writers but you really do have to go through an awful lot of dross to find them.

I read the one by the young Roma man. Very good. I never read blogs so the odd one is interesting.

I'm another one who scans straight past everything with a little 'mn' logo until I get to the nice juicy AIBUs and Chats.

There may be good stuff there, but it's so clarted with Sponsored Discussions by advertisers that I don't even look. A bit like I never click on the promoted websites that come up first when I do a Google Search, but wait until I find the highest ranked supplier who hasn't paid extra to be at the top.

I lose interest completely at anyone with anyone who describes themselves as a 'blogger'.

And the exhortion to 'talk conception and lube!' makes me feel somewhat nauseous.

I avoid all blogs like the plague

Imo most bloggers tend to come across as totally self important wannabe writers, who just couldn't make the cut.

Not my cup of tea at all. Self-obsessed "bloggers" annoy me.

I totally don't get it at all - i mean, someone waffles on about the minutae of their lives? My life is pretty boring, WHY would i want to read about someone elses boring life? Other than to make me feel better about my boring life. They are invariably really hard to read because they are so badly written, sod that for a game of soldiers

I don't often read guest blogs except the ones that come up in feminism, to be fair. But I don't think people are necessarily being self-important or thinking anyone's interested in the minutae of their lives. I started blogging because I need practice writing short bits of work, and I need to find out whether my work project is going to be something that anyone outside my narrow area is interested in. And when I say 'need', I mean, I'm actually dependent on that for funding. I could find out through other media than blogging, but blogging seemed the obvious one. And then MNHQ said I could put my blog on their network, which means they put it in their list without me having to do anything. I just figured it could sit there and if people wanted to have a look they could, and if not, they'd ignore.

I assume it is similar for lots of the people who get featured as guest blogs. I don't imagine they're sitting there thinking 'ooh, my life is soooo amazing, everyone will want to know!'

Btw I'm absolutely not saying that as an argument that anyone shouldn't skip past blogs (because I do myself), or that anyone shouldn't find them boring. I just thought maybe people didn't know why anyone would promote a blog on MN, and wanted to explain it's not necessarily arrogance exactly.

I find them irritating and like others I skip past them and anything similar to get to the good stuff! Sure some of them are interesting but I can use Google so if I have a spare half hour chance would be a fine thing and want something to read I'm sure I can find it for myself.

I have enjoyed a few funny or informative blog posts but some of them aren't great. You have to take a punt on them and see for yourself. It helps that I mainly use MN on PC as agree the huge sticky list on mobile app is really annoying.

I think I saw the Jennifer Saunders one puffing her book with the nauseating strap line of the default setting in her family being set to laughter. Never read any of them. The forum is far more interesting.

I don't read the guest blogs unless they really catch my eye

I do read the blog of the day quite often though

I don't always read them but some have been very good and I dont mind them being there.

I don't read them because they don't interest me, but I assume that enough people must read them, because otherwise mn would drop them, so they must be getting the hits, so I think yabu. There are those who are interested and enough of them. MN wouldn't waste their time otherwise.

I read them sometimes, it the topic catches my eye.

I don't understand the vitriol that is aimed at bloggers. I don't say, 'God, these fecking chicken keepers, with their chickens and egloos and all their chatter about eggs and feed. What a total bore!'.

So you don't want to read blogs. Fine. Don't read them. Just stop complaining about them.

You may not like the guest blogs, but someone has sat for HOURS writing that post and it is quite disheartening when people come along and snipe at them.

Self-obsessed blogger?

Many of the Guest Bloggers aren't actually MNetters. They are people who are commenting on a news topic of the week.

I wish I could blog. I find myself completely incapable of writing more than two concise sentences per post.

I think it is very narrow minded to dismiss anyone on the basis of them writing a blog.

I don't have "stickies' on my Mumsnet though so I don't have to scroll past them and see only the Guest Blogs that keep being bumped up Active conversations, by virtue of people going on there to discuss the subject.

I just don't get it. I agree with most of the above.
