obviously if you have a very newborn or you're ill then maybe a might miss a day, but generally speaking do you shower (or bath) every day? I do, but sometimes I might shower in the morning one day but then not shower next until the next evening, if I have a gym session or exercise class planned. I do wear deodorant and clean clothes daily but too many showers irritate my skin and are just a faff. grim, or not grim?

I shower (or swim and shower) every morning and have a bath when I get in from work. I walk 5 miles home from work though so stink. But I have a bath even on the days I don't work before bed to wash the day away.

Ragwort · 29/11/2013 08:15

Some of you must spend your lives having showers/supervising the rest of the family having showers and doing laundry. Hate to think what you water/energy bills are like Grin.

For those who really want to know Hmm - yes I would shower before sex (& wash afterwards) & as I have been through the menopause I no longer have to worry about periods Grin.

And yes, older people do have sex Grin.

Eliza22 · 29/11/2013 08:20

Morning and evening. Morning because it's not nice not to. Evening because it gets me all warm (and clean) for bed. It's just what I do.

Kids.....one shower a day, before bed.

trice · 29/11/2013 08:27

Dcs have a bath on Sundays. They don't smell and more frequent washing irritates their skin. I shower three times a week. Dh showers daily because he works out until dripping with sweat.

livinginwonderland · 29/11/2013 08:30

We don't have a shower but I have a bath every other day as a general rule - more often in summer, though. In winter, I find my skin gets really dry with central heating if I shower everyday.

expatinscotland · 29/11/2013 08:31

Yes.

Halloweenjunkie · 29/11/2013 08:50

I shower every morning without fail. Even with a newborn, I made sure I got 5 mins a day for a shower. Wakes me up and makes me feel human.

personally I keep coal in the bath and have a strip wash when I start to itch.(apologies to some author or other)
this obsession with shouting about how clean u are is so ....lower middle class

Thatisall · 29/11/2013 10:53

Every other day. Unless it's really hot or I've done some serious exercise. Why do you ask by the way?

passedgo · 29/11/2013 10:55

If we all showered every day the shower would be running for about half an hour and our bathroom would be wrecked. We shower every other day, with a hair wash and change of pjs in Winter. If we all showered every day we would have a house strewn with damp towels and there would be twice as much laundry to do.

In summer it's dfferent as needs are different, we sweat more, are outdoors more, and towels dry quicker.

I think it's pointless really. Not good for your skin, not good for the environment, a waste of money through laundry, water use etc and wears clothes out in the washing machine.

Only useful to shower every day if you are really smelly or work on a farm.

NigellasLeftNostril · 29/11/2013 10:56

yes that is true, when I worked with horses in a hot country we all showered twice a day, it would have been rank not to.
But normally it is not necessary.

Oldraver · 29/11/2013 10:57

Yes, once a day minimum.

MillyStar · 29/11/2013 11:08

I shower every morning and wash my hair - cant leave the house without it!

Sometimes have a bath at night also.

I think it's just what you/re used to, my dad baths every night because he's a builder but my mum prob does once a week - i don't know if it's a generation thing because her family were so poor when they were young, she didn't even own a pair of socks until she met my dad.

My daughters other nan has her shower and hair wash every sunday

HopSkipJumpFroggyHopSkipJump · 29/11/2013 11:13

I shower every day but was hair every other day or it gets too dry

passedgo · 29/11/2013 11:15

I blame the Antipodeans, coming over here with their hot-weather showering habits and ruining our weekly family traditions.

CrotchStitch · 29/11/2013 11:26

Gosh yes, everyday (sometimes twice)
TBH I am very much an in and out type and only use baby shampoo (short hair anyway) and mild soap. It takes me about two minutes to shower, less than it would take me to wash my bed head in the sink.
We must be freaks beause DH and DS shower daily too Hmm

ChablisChic · 29/11/2013 11:33

Yes, I shower every morning, but it's more to wake me up than because I feel grubby. I also wash my hair every day as it's very short and sticks up all over the place if I don't. I can be in and out in 3 or 4 minutes.

YoucancallmeQueenBee · 29/11/2013 11:34

Thank heavens we have a choice!!!!! Imagine if you were only allowed a shower every 3 days or you had to have one every day. Each to their own.

I can always smell unwashed hair (sensitive nose) it is one of my pet hates. Always makes me laugh to myself when people say that they only need to wash their hair once every 4 days and on day 3 I'm getting mega wiffs of unwashed hair!

garlictrivia · 29/11/2013 12:06

QueenBee, hair does stop smelling after a few weeks. Left unwashed, and brushed daily, it starts working like it was meant to - conditions itself, shrugs off pongs and repels dirt. The grim part is getting to the point of optimum hair health! Somebody who'd never used chemicals on their hair, but brushed it well, would have perfect tresses :)

PeriodFeatures · 29/11/2013 12:16

I think the world is mad.

The hygiene industry has done a great job on us making us think we are all filthy dirty and need a minimum of a daily shower.

It is not good to be scrubbing ourselves and chucking chemical products on our skin and hair every single day. Not unless we are in work which is making us filthy or really sweaty. We then buy products to balance the PH in our skin, products to make it smooth again after we have scrubbed dry daily. Seriously??!!

We are we so worried about our bodily excretions that we spend time and money getting rid of them. Yes, if left for days on end we will smell, we will smell if we don't change out clothes but really? Is a daily shower really necessary?

Yes clean your bits, but TBH the smell of products is really off putting. I want to shag someone that smells like a human.

This country has a water shortage nearly every year. Quick shower or strip wash a day is fine but excessive showering and cleaning is totally unnecessary.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/11/2013 12:30

If I'm not going to be at work ill sometimes skip a day.

willyoulistentome · 29/11/2013 12:40

Yes, otherwise my fine hair goes totally flat. (it does anyway, but at least it's not greasy and flat if I shower)

Mintyy · 29/11/2013 12:43

Yes, I have a shower every day. Or maybe 360 a year or something like that. There are parts of my body that I want to wash at least daily and it is just as quick to do it in the shower.

I am intrigued by those of you who don't get whiffy armpits, underparts and feet after 24 hours. What race do you come from?

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 29/11/2013 13:05

it depends, but it's more like every other day.

I don't get sweaty and I don't stink.

However in the summer I do shower every day and when it's very hot I might have a few extra "cooling showers".

If I went to work everyday I would shower every morning before putting on fresh clothes - but I'm home so no one cares.
