Getting tipped out, eaten, mulched down etc.

Not hugely ethical, no?

I always feel sorry for the creatures on it. They must be scared especially when some mad human is screaming to buggery and flapping around.

Just waiting and the frogs in Westlifeman trial were in danger of being squashed.

TooTabooToBOOOOO · 27/11/2013 22:04

Just watching

mercibucket · 27/11/2013 22:09

not nice

insects not as cute as mammals so standard animal welfare rules suspended it seems

CormoranStrike · 27/11/2013 22:10

I don't normally feel much empathy for bugs, but it is the sheer volume they dump on celebs for entertainment is odd.

Animals for food - fine.

Emus/crocs in tanks etc, fine.

Bugs being made into juice - eeek!

Definitely agree. One of the reasons I don't really watchit. Especial lyrics when there's rats/frogs etc sentient creatures potentially being stamped on. Totally unnecessary.

TooOldForGlitter · 27/11/2013 22:14

They aren't fluffy wikkle duckies so don't 'count' in most peoples eyes.

clpsmum · 27/11/2013 22:25

Where do they all go once the trials are over?

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 27/11/2013 22:41

YANBU, but luckily I don't watch it (work colleague was telling me about it today). I DS has some pet hissers and they're actually quite endearing little creatures - we watched a nymph shed its skin [for the next size up!] tonight ...

BonnieBlueButler · 27/11/2013 22:47

Totally agree and it's why I won't watch it. All in the name of 'entertainment'. It's really not on.

hyenafunk · 27/11/2013 22:49

Yanbu, totally unethical and disgraceful hence why I don't watch it. Haven't watched since Carol Thatcher year, I don't imagine it got much better since.

OwlinaTree · 27/11/2013 22:49

Yes, I think it's Ott. They eat live insects. I bet there would be complaints if they ate live puppies!

HesterShaw · 27/11/2013 22:51

I've never understood why this is entertainment.

We used to see the Japanese doing shows like this and marvel at how utterly weird it was. Ha ha, fancy thinking someone being covered in insects is entertainment, gosh aren't these little Japanese people bizarre? Etc.

And now it's a British televisual phenomenon.

Grim.

I completely agree. These are living creatures. Nobody give a shit about them being killed for entertainment. OTOH, Gino DiCampo kills and actually eats a rat and all hell breaks loose. Angry
I will not allow this programme on the TV in my house.

Sunflower49 · 28/11/2013 04:13

I think It's totally barbaric and feel sad that we call ourselves a superior race whilst finding stuff like this entertaining. YANBU.

BTW I've never seen the programme, I won't watch it based on what I've heard about it-but then I avoid TV for this kind of reason anyway, I would find two flies crawling up the screen more entertaining than most of it, regardless of whether people eating flies was the alternative.

MillicentTendancies · 28/11/2013 09:22

YANBU - I feel sorry for the rats and snakes and bugs etc.

In years people will look back and think wtf I think.

kali110 · 28/11/2013 09:37

Completely agree!

ClangerOnaComeDown · 28/11/2013 09:40

Was just saying this yesterday. It's just wrong and I don't like it.

IronOrchid · 28/11/2013 10:04

Animal welfare legislation only applies to vertebrates, so they can legally do what they want with the bugs. It says a lot about the makers of the show that they know and exploit this. Tossers.

Imogenolivia · 28/11/2013 10:32

This show completely cheapens life and it makes me so Sad. Oh let's all eat a kangaroo's arse or an elephants balls just because we can. Cheapening life Angry

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 28/11/2013 10:39

Having a spine should not affect your right to a dignified life or death! Angry

Gosh its all insect loving day today!

I suppose you lot don't kill the fleas that bite your kids then?

Panzee · 28/11/2013 11:46

I don't watch it because of what they do to the animals and insects. Squashing, scaring, eating etc. They might not be cute and cuddly but they don't deserve this.

MyBaby1day · 28/11/2013 11:59

Yes I do and agree with mercibucket in that because they are not as cute as mammals they seem to get less thought about and, as a consequence, less protection. It's wrong and the Australians shouldn't allow it.
