To say 'bum bum'

As in 'I'm going to bite your bum bum', 'lets change your bum bum' etc
Apparently it is not good as DS now says it too and if he does it at school his teacher will mark him out as one of the 'naughty children' (says MIL, the obvious expert in these matters)

Yes it's nonsense and I could easily say bottom, it's just something I've always said to him.

Tell her you've taught him to say rectum, then, that'll cheer her up.

I don't know why I don't like 'bum', I think it reminds me of The Sun newspaper and other trashy magazines, they are always going on about women's 'bums'.

lol at "shitty arse". I think bum bum is fine. I say it to my son when I want to wash his bottom, he thinks it's hilarious. He has autism and I'm just happy that he will let me wash it, whatever I call it. This thread reminds me a bit of when my children were babies and if I played 'boo' with them, my mil would pull a cat's bum face and say, "Do you mean peepo?" Reading this back, I am obviously frightfully common.

Not "bum bum", but we've always used bum. Used the phrase "bum up" a lot during nappy changes!! And a common one for our climber: "bums on seats, feet on the floor!"

But since starting pre school she has started using "bottom", which is something we don't use, so it seems it's an issue there.

Any teacher who would judge a child so completely based on their usage of one word is somebody I wouldn't want teaching my child anyway! I'm sure most school teachers are capable of forming opinions based on lots of things about a child.

I say 'do your bum' for nappy change, God knows why! I don't like doubling up words like that personally, it goes in the same category as moo cow and baa lamb for me, cute when they're small then when they get older they're told it's babyish and have to change the way they've always said it. Never ever heard it be used as a rude word though, when I worked in a private nursery we always called them bums!

I say bum and bum bum, I don't think it is rude. My DD2's first word was bum, she used to say it really loudly while we were out

Coffee, I agree. Don't like to hear children saying bum either. It just sounds wrong.

So I think YADNBU. We're definitely not a 'bottom' household, not proper enough for that.

We say botty or bottom in our house, I just don't like hearing a two year old saying bum. My mil says bum and it does grate but there are bigger battles, each to their own :)

We do not swear and will not let them. they know if they did

I never like the word bottom growing up.
I seen it as odd! So we all say bum here
because to me it is like the word bucks instead of dollars
because we dont miss use the word and prefer it the kids listens more when saying bum and know what we are saying to them.
We will not allow swearing here at all and feel that when saying it in the correct way it is not a rude word.
The kids got top marks for behavior and was said to be very polite

Don't say bum, we say tuches, but otherwise I'm terrible for this. Nappy is "nip nap" and then we have armies, leggies, toesies, schmackle, horsies, doggies or dig dogs, pusscats, pip pips, sleepies or schluffs, billy bon bons, blankies, yoggies.... The list is endless! poor DS will end up speaking some bastardised pidgin English. Although my mum was the same and I can still have entire conversations with her that no one else would understand.
