To go ahead and be a sex chatline worker?

Hi all,
I'm a regular and have been on and off for years so I have changed my name!
In a nutshell : DH lost his job in August, we have no savings, 2 dc and a huge mortgage (outskirts London so stupid money)

Anyway I'm a therapist (beauty and massage) worked for an agency- money okay but jobs were 2 hours away with a minutes notice and I was visiting strangers houses (scary situations- HORRID that could be another thread).

SO I started wondering what I could do from home.. I came across an advert for chatlines...
Now the money isn't amazing but if you put the hours in you can get £250 a week.. (I know it isn't a life changing sum but I chat crap while mopping the floor or emailing etc) and it's safe and in the comfort of ones own home and I need money.

Has anyone done this work? I did actually see a thread about some chat line women on mumsnet but it was 5/6 years old didn't want to bump up an old thread..

Any info/advice welcome!!

I wouldn't blame someone for doing it if they were desperate but I think its bad that anyone should have to. Also don't get me started on people having to work in private companies for j.s.a I think that is really wrong.

Mylovely my oldest caller was 76. I had a good laugh in that office actually. Made some great friends in the other women who worked there that i still am friends with today.

I worked on one for a couple of years as a single mother , It was fine yes you did get a few creeps but u soon know how to tow the line, You don't not have to go along with anything they said you'll find alot of guys are single and lonely some disabled they will just start chatting to you, They will pester you for ur real ID and phone number, Tell them you live with your mother and get lonely so do the job, then check what shifts ur on and become regulars on your shift - After a few weeks it wont shock you all if not as weirdos - Keep it as a complete fantasy as to who you really are, It paid for my girls new shoes and electricity bills too, Goodluck xx :)

Ahh yes i also got a couple of guys who got a bit into it, i had one guy tell me he loved me
We also had some oddball caling up just winding us up, i loved it though, broke up the day! I do remember telling one guy to fuck off horrible bastard, he said he wanted to see his gf be fucked by a dog.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
This is why I love MN as you can't ask or discuss these type of things in RL.. doesn't help that I live amongst mums who don't need to work and shop/lunch/gym everyday...
Maybe the advice of an earlier poster who said I should move somewhere cheaper could be an option..

Just a curious question to the posters who have done this - is the a demand for male operators?

And would they be gay or straight?

WallyBanters - I can only speak from my experience which was quite a few years ago and in another country, though we did get international calls. The company I worked for did try to set up some lines for callers who'd like to speak to a male, advertising in places/mags that targeted women or gay men. It didn't work, no-one rang enough to make it worthwhile. I think the boys were busy accessing services that allowed the potential for real life hook ups, and women just weren't as interested in fantasy role play over the phone.

Things may have changed now with the advent of better internet communications regarding gay male fantasy, however from what I know of the industry, women who access it for personal pleasure are in a tiny minority.

Oh and another thing to add to the discussion. Dudes who call usually didn't really want an indepth, convoluted fantasy. They just wanted someone to moan their names while saying what a big cock they had. Most of us who worked the lines developed their own routine which was pretty much word for word identical for most callers, I could go into my routine while reading a book, watching a movie, having a conversation with another person (judicious use of mute), without missing a beat or losing concentration on the other thing I was doing. Even sleeping.. which lead to it's own complications! I was half asleep on the couch one day at my parents and my younger teenaged brother was chatting away at me, unfortunately my sleeping brain slipped into automatic sex chat routine. Fortunately I caught myself before it got too creepy, but that's when I knew it was time to ditch the phone boning!

Lolololol ami! I did that to a cold caller, anything that came up as a private number i assumed was work haha If i was ever in a crappy situation with no work i would do it again in a shot!

canttheysee- the thing is I am considering but my understanding is it pays very little and sometimes you get no calls and sometimes a call for a minute or two..atm ANY money is better than nothing but wondered if anyone had any info on what the average pay is like..

Honestly the most i ever made was 200 in a week but i worked all day and a lot into the nights and all weekend, you sometimrs can have no calls so the best bey is to get your regulars and give ur usernumber out to people so they can reach u. It is worthh it if you need money tbh and u can be set up same day u enquire. I were considering dooing it alongside my normal job on nights i wasnt working, for a bit of extra cash. The rates are a bit shit but it goes up longer you keep them on the phone, keep them on for the whole hour and its like 25quid but 1minute is like 14p

I had an alterego my name was hollie Id deffo change that to something else though if i did it again. I got into it through shear desperation and it worked for me until my new lovely regular job came up :) i know ive always got something to fall back on which is actually a really nice feeling :)

canthey i had a few callers who used to get a bit obsessive. One even sent me jewellry (the bosses had a po box that stuff could get sent to) and a couple of the other girls got sent perfume.
I even had one professing undying love while crying on the phone. Claimed he was a copper.

I had a guy really piss me off kept asking for my details so i hung up on him, i went to make a call to HO and lifted the reciever he was still there for a good half hour, there are some lunatics but actually i had some guys who were just a bit lonely :) My job was to lie.... what are you wearing babe? Id make up some sexy ensemble and actually be sat on my sofa in my scruffs doing a crossword
