To hoover at 9.30pm?

DH and I live in a terraced house, and both work very long hours at times. Now is one of those times. I just got home and the house needs hoovering. DH is away, and I like to get the chores out of the way when he is so we can spend time together at the weekend. Also, it is always nice to come home to a clean house (he does the same for me). Can I hoover now? Neighbours have no dc...even so, is it a bit inconsiderate?

Yes ! Yabu

CaterpillarCara · 07/11/2013 21:38

No, sorry... you can't hoover this late.

Boiing · 07/11/2013 21:38

As another resident of a terraced house where noise travels easily I think it would be unreasonable and a bit mean to Hoover now. I know what you mean about long hours (have been there!) but you'll just have to wait until the weekend.

Just because your neighbours have no DC doesn't mean it's fair to spoil their evening...

reddaisy · 07/11/2013 21:41

Hoover if you want to! It is 9.30pm, not 11.30! It is hardly going to take long. I imagine that is part of living in a terraced house.

ThingsThatGoHumpInTheNight · 07/11/2013 21:44

Wow, that's a pretty resounding no then! Glad I asked now...I am very relaxed about stuff like this and wouldn't be bothered AT ALL! However I don't want to annoy the neighbours, so wine, trash tv and mn it is Grin

As long as you don't mind your neighbours doing some DIY at a similar time.

Hoover in the morning.

ThingsThatGoHumpInTheNight · 07/11/2013 21:46

Hhm, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't appreciate it in the morning Ogg, I leave the house at 6.30am...weekend it is...

9:30 is the time for relaxing.

If you can afford it get a cleaner. He/she can do the hoovering, polishing, mopping floors and deep clean the bathrooms/s

thistlelicker · 07/11/2013 21:49

Some people are in bed at that time if they have to get up early! Bit unreasonable and selfish!! I'm sure you dh can help with jobs at weekend

ThingsThatGoHumpInTheNight · 07/11/2013 21:51

'Get a cleaner' has been on the to do list for a while Forty

Yabu

NettoSuperstar · 07/11/2013 21:55

I wouldn't.
I'm in a ground floor flat and don't hoover after nine on a weekday, ten at weekends.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 07/11/2013 21:58

Do it.

I have just started taking on clients on my days off ( all legal) . I charge £10 per hour and i buy my own cleaning supplies apart from a vacuum cleaner. ( cloths are only used once and then binned)

with my clients they pay me for X amount of hours and I will do what they need me to do.

ThingsThatGoHumpInTheNight · 07/11/2013 22:00

The problem is, we have just moved area completely and don't know many people to ask for a recommendation, and I would rather not use an agency as they seem really expensive, and I've been told they don't do a great job....

OP posts:
FortyDoorsToNowhere · 07/11/2013 22:05

What i would say is try a few companies but don't sign a contract.

I also give OAP a discount of 25%, i don't mean to brag but I now have a waiting list as my Facebook page has become swapped by recommendations.

Mintyy · 07/11/2013 22:07

Yes, of course it is!

Hoover in the daylight like normal people, fgs.

Weeantwee · 07/11/2013 22:09

I wouldn't hoover at this time of night but I'm sat here opposite DH who is currently playing his electric guitar Blush The flat below us is empty though!

justgirl · 07/11/2013 22:10

i must be really mean and my neighbours must hate me but i hoover at all hours!! middle of the night, very earlier hours of the morning some times :-S because I am fitting around my work (i work at home..and its a messy job) so sometimes when i finish, whatever time that may be...i need to hoover..i do it without thinking to be honest! woops!

Xmasbaby11 · 07/11/2013 22:11

We hoover at that time. DD is scared of the hoover so we only do it when she's in bed!

Didn't occur to me anyone would be in bed at that hour. It wouldn't wake anyone up, anyway.

nobalance · 07/11/2013 22:14

I don't think I've ever heard next door hoovering. Either they don't do it ir its really not that loud. 9.30 isn't that late anyway, after 10 perhaps not

Strumpetron · 07/11/2013 22:15

I would be annoyed if my neighbours did.

I suppose it just depends on the thickness of your walls and if you can hear stuff usually.

teenagetantrums · 07/11/2013 22:16

i hover at 10pm, and i live in a flat, mind you the neighbors are fond of loud late night music and no small children around. I dont think a hover will wake up a normal person, i put my washing on at night as well.

Iaintdunnuffink · 07/11/2013 22:17

I think it'd depend if it was a 5 min job or 50 mins.

flatmum · 07/11/2013 22:20

I Hoover at 1 in the morning, but, I live in a detached house. I wouldn't do it in a flat much later and I think in a terrace you need to get on with it, I would be annoyed much after 10 I think I I could hear it or it went on for ages

Coupon · 07/11/2013 22:32

YABU I'm afraid.
